Playing computer games is a waste of time.

Children should not be allowed to play

them.

Nowadays, a lot of children spend their free time playing computer games. Especially
during the pandemic, youngsters have found in video games the chance to have fun and
to be in touch with their friends. On the other hand, experts agree that playing computer
games for a lot of time can become harmful for children, making them lose interest in
important things such as school or spending time with their family. Saying this, should
children be allowed to play them?

In my opinion, playing computer games should be allowed but also supervised. The
digital world where young people live can be a great way to interact with their peers, to
make friends and to develop digital skills. Nowadays, especially during the pandemic,
playing these games have become almost the only way for children to interact with
others besides attending school. Besides this, computer games can also be a dangerous
place for children because they can spend too much time playing them. To prevent this,
I think that parents should be more informed about the dangers that these activities
involve and set some limitations on the use of them.

However, computer games are not only a way of spending time, they are also places
where children can learn things. Some studies suggest that playing computer games
encourages young people to learn how these games are created. Therefore, the interest
in professions such as computer scientist, programmer or digital designer have increased
in the last years.

For these reasons, I think that playing computer games is not a waste of time if not a
great way to spend the time in. If playing does not become an obsession it can be a great
way for children to learn, to become more creative, to have more friends and to enjoy
their childhood.
