1. DEFINITION
Personal letter is a type of letter (or informal composition) that usually concerns personal
matters (rather than professional concerns) and is sent from one individual to another who
is known well.
2. SOCIAL FUNCTION
The social function of personal letter is to inform or convey personal opinions or interests
3. GENERIC STRUCTURES
The followings are the structure of Personal Letter.
 Heading: Date; Sender; Address.
 Greeting/Salutation.
 Body/Content.
 Closing/Complimentary Close.
 Signature.
4. LANGUAGE FEATURES
The language features of personal letter are as follows:
 Focus on exchanging personal current news, feelings, and conditions
 Use of pronouns, simple present tense, and past tense
 Use of date and address
 Informal greetings or salutations
B. LEARNING ACTIVITY 2: INVITATION TEXT
1. DEFINITION
An invitation letter is a document that presents a formal request for the presence of an
individual, a group of people or an organization at an event.
2. SOCIAL FUNCTION
The social function of Invitation is to ask or request someone to go somewhere, do
something, or participate in certain event
3. GENERIC STRUCTURES
The followings are the structure of invitation.
 The recipient
 Body (time, place, occasion, dress code, etc)
 The sender
4. LANGUAGE FEATURES
The language features of personal letter are as follows:
 Use of present simple
 Special phrase for invitation (cordially invite, request the pleasure of your presence,
solicit your gracious presence, etc)
 Using pronoun
 Day and date are spelt out
C. LEARNING ACTIVITY 3: ANNOUNCEMENT TEXT
1. DEFINITION
An announcement is a statement made to the public or to the media which gives information
about something that has happened or that will happen. An announcement can be spoken or
written form.
2. SOCIAL FUNCTION
The social function of Announcement is to gives information about something that has
happened or that will happen in the future. Information will be given to public or just to
small number of us
3. GENERIC STRUCTURES
The followings are the structure of announcement:
 The title
 Time (day, date, time)
 Place
 Receiver
 Announcer
 Detail information
4. LANGUAGE FEATURES
The language features of personal letter are as follows:
 Use of present simple
