B. COMPARISON BOOK
A. Definition of procedure text
Understanding procedure text in general, procedure text is one type of text in English
that shows and explains how to do or produce something through a series of regular
actions and steps. Procedure text generally contains a procedure, instruction, instructions,
method, process, or step in making or doing something. Academically, procedure text is a
text that displays a sequence of processes. In addition, procedure text also describes or
shows how something is made or done completely through a series of sequences or
processes. It must be underlined that the meaning of procedure text is to describe or show
a process and not to explain each process in detail one by one. Procedure texts always
hold on to the understanding of sequential processes. Thus, we can easily analyze and
identify a text including procedure text or not.

1. Goal
The objectives in the procedure text show the readers about the targets that must be
achieved after following the flow of information packaged by a procedure text. In
writing, the purpose is packaged in the form of an introductory sentence which is placed
at the beginning of a procedure text. However, writing the objective in the form of an
introductory sentence is optional, meaning you may also not write an introductory
sentence. To explain the purpose of writing procedure text instead, the purpose is
accommodated by the title of the text.
2. Material
The materials section in a procedure text serves to explain the materials or equipment
needed and used in related activities. This discourse unit is usually the part that
determines a reader to practice or carry out the next steps or not.
3. Steps
The steps section is the most important part in a procedure text. This section must exist
and is a mandatory requirement in making procedure texts. This section contains the steps
taken in an operation or problem solving in the procedure text so that the objectives can
be achieved. These steps are usually outlined in the text by being numbered sequentially
or numbers.
1. The purpose of writing the text is explained at the beginning of the text.
2. The steps are written in order.
3. Using imperative sentences
