LESSON TITLE:

C. Exile, Trial and Death

LESSON OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Identify the reasons for the deportation of Rizal to Dapitan, and later his trial
and death.
2. Recognize the significant actions of Rizal while he was in exiled until he was
sentenced to death which shows his nationalism.
3. Draw inspiration from the actions of Jose Rizal in times of hardship, and to
demonstrate the love for one’s nation in his own way.

TIME FRAME: 4.5 hours

INTRODUCTION/ OVERVIEW:

This last part of the chapter focuses on the most challenging part on the life of
Jose Rizal as a nationalist and as a young individual. Discussions on the reasons of
Rizal’s deportation and later his trial and death will be tackled here. Even though Rizal
was facing challenges – suspicion from the Spanish government officials and friars,
unfortunate experiences of his family, desperation and frustration on the lack of unity
among the indios and other challenges – during this phase of his life, there are still
some significant actions that he has done which shows his extreme love for his
motherland until his last breath.

Rizal’s life was presented in the short film? At a young age, why do
you think Rizal endure all those hardships?

Exercise 1. Paint me a picture


Direction: Draw or take a picture which symbolizes or describes Rizal’s life in Dapitan.
Write a description on why and how the picture or the symbol that you draw or photo
taken summarizes Rizal’s life in Dapitan.

Exercise 2. Domino Reaction (Concept map)


Direction: Using the process circle, trace the actions of Jose Rizal which led to his
execution. Write In bullet form or key word/s the actions that he made, when was it
done, and the reaction/s of the other Filipinos and the Spaniards.

Exercise 3. Rizal version 2020 (Role taking)
Direction: Assume that you are Jose Rizal who is alive today, in year 2020. What
oppressions/ struggles in the society are you going to combat? How would you
convince your fellow Filipinos to unite to fight and overcome these oppressions or
struggles? Identify at least 3 (you think that are topmost) struggles and present your
actions or solutions using the hierarchical pyramid.
