Inspection Checklist for K&A Projects

1) BACKGROUND
Throughout the hot summer months of the Middle East region, we are at increased risk of heat stress. Heat
stress can kill so please be aware of the risks and check that our contractors are implementing the basic
measures. All GCC countries have legislation that imposes a midday break rule usually from 15th June to
15th Sept and this prohibits any outdoor work between 12 - 3pm (variable timings).

Is there a communication system for informing employees of the
current environmental conditions? (E.g. flag system)?
Is there cool fresh water ( or other fluids) available
If cooler is used to supply water, is the lid sealed with tape and the
date of filled written on the container?
Is there cool fresh water easily available?
Are snacks/fruit available for employees during the workday to
ensure they maintain a nutrient / caloric intake needed for work in
the heat?
Are there posters reminding employees of the signs and symptoms
of heat injuries and illnesses?
Are first aiders available on site?
Are contact phone numbers available for medical emergencies?

Is there a way for the worksite to call for emergency medical

Has the worksite had drills where the scenario is a heat related
injury or illness?

Is the site following the ministry of labour's Mid-Day Break for
employees that work outside in the summer months?
