about toothpaste, of course choose the trustworthy brand and that is Colgate toothpaste. It is
said to be the top toothpaste in the world with features including; long lasting freshness, tartar

For more than 20 years, Colgate Total has been the trusted toothpaste for healthy teeth as
well as gums and anywhere in the world, it is the brand recommended by the dentist. According
to the study, Colgate is uniquely composed of 0.3% of the antibacterial triclosan which is
resistant plaque germs. It has 32 variations and it is superior to other brands for having unique
feature that fight plaque. In choosing the toothpaste to use, Colgate Total is a good choice
because it can definitely fight plaque for up to 12 hours where the formula is very effective in
fighting gingivitis. Gingivitis is a common form of pain on person’s gums that can cause
irritation, redness, and swelling of your gums even the gum area around the base of your teeth.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly half of American adults
aged 30 and over have severe periodontal disease and 75% of American adults suffer from
gingivitis and Colgate total is said to have been the answer to that. Another special feature of
Colgate total is that it only the toothpaste has this unique triclosan or Gantrez copolymer

reducing tartar which helps provide long lasting breath protection.
As a consumer who has been relying on Colgate Total toothpaste for over a decade, I have
wholeheartedly recommended Colgate not only because of my experiences but also because of
real benefit it brings to our teeth. Colgate Total has been thoroughly studied and clinically
proven to work better than other brands of toothpaste. It lifts the reduction of germs that can
cause gum disease and has been proven in the clinic that it provides 12 hours protection
against plaque germs. There are so many benefits of Colgate in our mouth and in fact, it is the
only toothpaste that has been awarded a Seal of Acceptance from the American Dental
Association for its inherent features. Additionally, Colgate Total is the number 1 most frequently
recommended and personally used toothpaste by dentists. I am one of those who trust it and
continue to recommend that other people use it as well because I believed that Colgate has
undergone thorough study that will be the answer to make our every smile even better.

Lesson 2: Writing the Concept Paper
Activity 2.1
Read the text below and answer the questions that follow.
Every Filipina is a source of endless possibilities. Her person embraces the roles
of responsible daughter, steadfast sister, generous aunt, indifferent employee,
consistent ex-lover, bill settler, a person who knows exactly how to uncomplicate
matters for each member of the family; yet she knows not how to identify what she
has long wanted for herself. She may have won the battle against men for equal
opportunity; but, she has lost and forgotten the spirit that drove her to win the battle.
She can hardly recognize herself, perhaps, who she had been, as an individual who
once has an underrated self-image. But declining economy remains clear to her.
Now, her true objective in her display of deliberate obsession to fair in the
formerly man’s world then needs disambiguation. Did she fight for self-actualization
because she wanted to pursue a career in the field of her choice or, did she fight for
the inadequacies of men in her family that cripple its function? Her present actions
seemingly prove her presence for the latter. Perhaps she thinks of herself as messiah,
and uses the same strength and freedom that she has acquired from her battle for
equality to save and rescue her family. She has become indifferent to her needs again
– caged, caged in her pretense. She flaunts her strength, her talents, her unwavering
confidence; she uses her resources and takes responsibility of her family; she
exercises her freedom to penetrate fields she can be good at; she works hard for
others and forgets about her own self, again. She has turned into an unimaginably
powerful person, who does everything she can possibly think of and defies anyone
who challenges her otherwise. She is the spirit who overshadows even the real
person within herself. She has enough compassion for her family; yet, she has not left
any for herself.

Activity 3.1
Read the text below and answer the questions that follow.
An advantage paper bags have over plastic ones is the fact that paper is
produced from a renewable source: trees. On the other hand, plastics are processed
from depleting resources such as fossil fuels and crude oil (Ross & Evans, 2002).
What is not commonly known though is that plastic bags are actually manufactured
from the byproduct of refining crude oil, allowing for the optimization of the resource,
and is furthermore beneficial because the excess gases from the refining process is
consumed rather than simply thrown into the environment (Cadman, et al., 2005), but
this does not alter the fact that renewable sources are more sustainable compared to
non-renewable ones. These depleting resources are very limited and are more likely to
be consumed faster, especially because they have numerous other functions including
acting as fuel for cars. But then, although paper bags are more manufactured from a
renewable source, the process of cutting down trees destroys plants and animals
(Muthu, et al., 2010). The cutting down of trees means the reduction of carbon dioxide
absorbers, and processing these trees as a raw material contribute to the emission of
carbon dioxide.
Studies commonly use the life cycle analysis methodology in assessing the
environmental impacts of both bags. Life cycle analysis is an evaluation tool that
comprises of four aspects namely: goal and definition, inventory analysis, impact
analysis, and interpretation (Sevitz, et al., 2003). Most studies analyze the life cycle of
bags from its production to its disposal or the so called “cradle-to-grave” analysis.
Muthu, et al. (2010) concluded in their study that the disposal of these bags make a
difference on how much impact a bag has on the environment. The results of their
study showed that reusing bags is the best option to come up with the least carbon
footprint values as reusing a bag allows its maximization and allows for it to be used
until the end of its cycle. Reusing bags at least four times “give the greatest
environmental impacts of types of carrier bags” (Bell & Cave, 2011).
