English for Academic and

Professional Purposes
Learning Task I

Summary
As the government creates a first-degree program in electronic sports,
playing online games may no longer be an after-school activity in the
next years (E-sports). The Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU)
collaborated with Tier One Entertainment, an e-sports and gaming
organization, to develop the curriculum for the four-year Bachelor of
Science in E-sports degree. It will be available for the upcoming
academic year once it has been approved by the Commission on
Higher Education. The new degree program will feature two courses,
according to Tryke Gutierrez, CEO of the gaming agency. It entails
game development as well as esports management. Gutierrez wrote in
an online article that if the (said) curriculum is accepted, it will not
only be able to offer after-career opportunities to gamers but will also
have a new generation of graduates eager to work in the e-sports
industry.
