 Action verbs are verbs which describe actions (walk, cook, make, play, sing, work, etc.). They can be used in the
present simple or continuous. Most verbs are action verbs.
(routine, simple present)
EXAMPLE: I walk to university every day.
I’m walking to work this week because my car is broken.
(temporary action, present continuous)
 Non-action verbs are verbs which describe states or feeling (not actions), e.g. like, be, want, love, etc. These
verbs are not normally used in the present continuous, only in present simple.
 Non-action verbs include: like, love, hate, be, need, want, forget, hope, prefer, know, believe,
understand, seem, depend, suppose, recognize, mean, hear, smell, agree, etc.
