Job Title LAC Learning and innovation officer

Part 1 – Job description

1. Main purpose of the job


The Learning and Innovation Officer will be responsible for systematically capturing and sharing of
programmatic learning, while ensuring their application throughout the LAC Cluster programme. The
Learning Officer will establish mechanisms for the ongoing capture, management and dissemination of
learning and promote its sharing throughout the LAC Cluster programme and the wider Tearfund
organisation at large. Tasks will focus on promoting innovation through designing knowledge and learning
capture methodologies as well as the strategic dissemination of lessons learnt tailored for programme
staff across LAC Cluster in the development and emergency sectors. The Learning and Innovation Officer
will design learning resources and visualisation tools including infographics, graphs, charts, one-page
snapshots and/or summaries of findings, and other user-friendly products within LAC programming for
targeted internal and external audiences. The learning products will be shared with LAC Cluster teams,
Partners and UK teams for the promotion and support of a culture of innovation and learning.

2. Position in organisation

● Reports to the LAC DME Advisor
● Works closely with Country Directors and Project Officers.
● Works closely with the Quality, Accountability and Learning (QUAL) unit
● Works closely with the comms officer to produce audio visual material that allows learning to be
shared with an internal and external audience

4. Organisational requirements

5. Key Responsibilities
Learning culture
● Promote and support a culture of innovation and learning within the Cluster team, country offices
and partners across portfolios.
● Contribute to organisational learning through the design of procedures, processes, and systems to
encourage and facilitate more effective sharing of program results, approaches, feedback from
partners, and lessons learned throughout the LAC Cluster, using this insight to contribute to the
field and shape future programs.
● Establish and lead learning capture processes with country offices and partners including
facilitating regular forums to discuss lessons learnt and their application to future programme
design.
Learning practices
● Strengthen learning practices across the LAC Cluster through training, workshops, webinars, etc.
● Keep abreast of developments in learning technologies to ensure that LAC Cluster programming
remains agile and relevant, in order to advise and recommend tools and strategies to capture
programmatic adaptations and results.
● Document and share learning – ensure requirements, lessons learned, and best practices for
products, events, and other knowledge management activities are clear and documented.
Innovation
● Responsible for promoting innovation throughout the programme interventions, sharing of
knowledge and good practises and encouraging staff to do the same.
● Support Country offices and partners in identifying pressing challenges in their context and
co-develop novel and creative solutions by drawing on a broad range of innovative approaches,
frameworks and methods.
● Remain up-to-date on innovations, approaches and technologies, particularly those that could be
potentially applied to the development and humanitarian sector.
● Facilitate dialogues and workshops to make innovation accessible to the LAC Cluster peers by
guiding them through problem exploration, solution design and experimentation.
Collaboration
● Collaborate with DME Advisor and entire PO’s team to identify and adapt approaches, tools and
resources to better equip partners.
● Work with Cluster teams to ensure that key learnings are incorporated in upcoming proposal
plans and interventions.
● Liaise with the Quality, Accountability and Learning (QUAL) unit to ensure learning is reflected
across the organization systematically as well as to ensure that relevant learning captured in other
Tearfund country programmes is shared with LAC Cluster.
● Works closely with project officers to build partner capacity to develop and implement good
practices to mainstream the Quality Standards of Tearfund: Behaviour, Impartiality and Targeting,
Accountability, Gender, Empowerment, Resilience, Technical Quality and Protection.
● Coordinate content for the different learning initiatives which Tearfund develops e.g Community
of practice platform (CoP), e-learning modules on Learning Pool for LAC, etc.
