REMINDERS:

• The allotted time for the quiz is 2 hours (9:00 AM – 11:00 AM).
• Two assignments will be given. One is for the submission of the pdf
file containing your manual solutions and a selfie of you holding your
papers/work. The other one is for the summary of your answers.
• You should submit your summary of answers before 11:00 AM while
the pdf file can be submitted late.
• Outputs that are submitted late will have corresponding deductions.
• Always store necessary values in your calculator.
• Don’t round off answers unless it is already the final answer.
• Final answers must be up to 3 decimal places only.
• Input only the positive values of your answers in the summary.
Problem #1:
Note: Replace all zero digits of your ID
A building for office use is designed using the pre stressed hollow core slab number by number “2”
shown.
Use: X = Last 3 digits of ID number
Y = Last 2 digits of ID number
A = 4th digit of ID number
B = 5th digit of ID number
C = 6th digit of ID number
Properties of slab are as follows:
A = 1.2 x 105 mm2
e.g., ID # = 12-3456-789
St = Sb = 4.16 x 106 mm3
X = 789
The slab is pre stressed with 500+Y kN force at an eccentricity, e = 30+A mm Y = 89
below the centroid of the section. The weight of the slab is 2.35 kPa, super
imposed dead load is 2.0 kPa, live load = 2.4 kPa. The slab is simply A=4
supported on bearings at L = 5+B m. Allowable stresses at service loads are B=5
3.2 MPa in tension and 18.5 MPa in compression. Consider 15+C% loss of C=6
pre stress at service loads.
I. Resulting stress at the top and bottom fibers of the slab at L/4 from Note: Replace all zero digits of your ID
the center of bearings. number by number “2”

Due to gravity loads:

1. Determine the total uniform load carried by the slab. (kN/m) Use: X = Last 3 digits of ID number
2. Determine the vertical reaction at the end supports of the slab. (kN) Y = Last 2 digits of ID number
3. Determine the moment at L/4 from the center of bearings. (kN-m)
A = 4th digit of ID number
4. Determine the bending stress at the top fiber of the slab. (MPa)
5. Determine the bending stress at the bottom fiber of the slab. (MPa) B = 5th digit of ID number
C = 6th digit of ID number
Due to prestress:
6. Determine the stress at the top fiber of the slab. (MPa)
7. Determine the stress at the bottom fiber of the slab. (MPa) e.g., ID # = 12-3456-789
X = 789
Due to both gravity loads and prestress force:
8. Determine the resulting stress at the top fiber of the slab. (MPa) Y = 89
9. Determine the resulting stress at the bottom fiber of the slab. (MPa) A=4
B=5
C=6

midspan. number by number “2”

Due to gravity loads:

Use: X = Last 3 digits of ID number
10. Determine the moment at the midspan. (kN-m)
11. Determine the bending stress at the top fiber of the slab. (MPa) Y = Last 2 digits of ID number
12. Determine the bending stress at the bottom fiber of the slab. (MPa) A = 4th digit of ID number

Due to prestress: B = 5th digit of ID number

13. Determine the stress at the top fiber of the slab. (MPa) C = 6th digit of ID number
14. Determine the stress at the bottom fiber of the slab. (MPa)

Due to both gravity loads and prestress force: e.g., ID # = 12-3456-789

15. Determine the resulting stress at the top fiber of the slab. (MPa) X = 789
16. Determine the resulting stress at the bottom fiber of the slab. (MPa)
Y = 89
III. A=4
17. Determine the maximum total load (kPa) that the slab can carry so B=5
as not to exceed the allowable stresses
C=6
