CONTENT Number Theory
▪ Routing and Non-routing problems involving factors, multiples
and divisibility rules.
▪ PMDAS/GMDAS
CONTENT The learners demonstrate understanding of divisibility, order of
STANDARD operations, factors and multiples, and the four fundamental operations
involving fractions.
PERFORMANCE The learners are able to apply divisibility, order of operations, factors
STANDARD and multiples, and the four fundamental operations involving fractions
in mathematical problems and real-life situations.
FORMATION The learners create more better ways to solve a problem than having
STANDARD many problems with one way to solve it and valuing the help of the
concept of factors, multiples and divisibility rules.

MATHEMATICS 5
FIRST QUARTER:
WEEK 3

I. Overview:
This week covers the lesson in solving problems related to factors, multiples and divisibility
rules. The 2 types of word problems will encounter here and the use of different techniques and methods
that will help to solve any problem.
This also emphasizes the creativity of each individual on finding a solution to a problem
especially on different real life situations.

II. Learning Objectives:

The learners are expected to:
▪ recall factors, multiples and divisibility rules of a number;
▪ solve routine and non-routine problems involving factors, multiples and divisibility rules by
2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11, and 12; and
▪ recognize the value of factors, multiples and divisibility rules in solving real-life scenarios.
▪ state the rules of operations;
▪ explain the PMDAS and GMDAS rules; and
▪ evaluate the expression by following the rules.

III. Materials Needed:

▪ Multimedia Devices: PowerPoint Presentation, YouTube
▪ Devices: Laptop, Speaker, headset, microphone, radio, etc

V. Lesson Proper:

A. ACTIVITY:
Session 1: Divisibility Test
Given the divisibility rule of a number and choosing which number is visible.

Tree Planting Activity Problem

Analyzing the problem about the three planting activity and sharing ideas how are they
going to solve the problem based on their understanding.

Session 2: Book Activity page 35-36: D. 1,3 and 4

Session 3: Interpret and Evaluate

Giving interpretation on 5 questions and evaluate the mathematical operation described.
Sharing Ideas
Asking the occupation of their parents and let them share how they help their parents
to earn a living.

Session 4: Short Quiz- Evaluating mathematical expression (1-5 items)

B. ANALYSIS:
Session 1: Routine and Non-Routine Problems
▪ How did you find the activity?
▪ How are we going to solve routine and non-routine problems?
▪ When is factor tree technique applicable?
▪ When is listing method can be used?
▪ When is the table method used in the problem?
Key Question
▪ How does the four step plan help you to solve the problem?

Session 3: PMDAS and GMDAS

▪ How are you going to help your parents to earn a living?
▪ What can you say about the problem opener?
▪ How will you find the answer to the problem?
▪ How will you reflect on Samuel’s attitude on the problem?
Key Question:
▪ How do we evaluate an expression with two different operations?
C. ABSTRACTION
Session 1: Routine and Non-Routine Problems
o Two types of problems
 Routine problems that are useful for daily living; or
 Non-routine problems which are mostly concerned with developing
mathematical reasoning and fostering an understanding that mathematics
is a creative endeavor.(Ursua, 2016)

Session 3: PMDAS and GMDAS

o It is an acronym for the word parenthesis, multiplication and division, addition
and subtraction. Given two or more operations in a single expression, the order of
the letter in the PMDAS/GMDAS tells you what to calculate first, second, third
and so on, until the calculation is complete.(Study.com, 2020)

D. APPLICATION
▪ Solving routine and non-routine problems and analyzing which methods they are going
to use.
▪ Evaluating mathematical expressions and problem-solving with PMDAS rule.
E. CLOSURE
THREE W’S
• What did we learn today?
• So What? (relevancy, importance, usefulness)
• Now What? (how does this fit into what we are learning, does it affect our
thinking, can we predict where we are going)

VI. Assessment
Session 2: Book Activity page 35-36: D. 1,3 and 4

Session 4: Short Quiz (1-5 items)

Evaluate the expressions.
a.7 x (7+ 140)
b. 195 ÷ (3 x 5)
c. (3 + 83 – 73) x 2
d.76 – 8 x 9
e. (90 x 5 ÷ 50) + (4+3)

VII. Assignment/Announcement
Make sure to submit your works on time.
