1. Visit and browse through the Vienna tourism site. Describe what you see on the

site that is considered components of the smart destination concept.

Vienna’s tourism site offers all the essential information you need for your travel in

Vienna. When selecting a destination whether a hotel, restaurant or even a shopping center, this

tourism site will give you the website, contact details and the map to the place of your desired

destinations, it will also show suggestions about the point of interest in the area which allows

you to choose or customize the itinerary of your travel through browsing this website.

Also, the first thing that you will notice when you visit the website is a message of how

they informed the tourist about their closed establishments due to the current COVID-19

situation, which is good because it shows how they care about the tourist. But still they are

providing their guests much information with regards to destinations. Vienna’s tourism site also

provides information about the place’s temperature today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow.

As well as the guest’s preferred language, and for those guests who can’t read or hear, they

have british and american sign languages.

2. Find other cities in Europe to see if they also have a smart city strategy. Compare

theirs with Vienna to identify common themes and differences.

Smart city is a better place to live, also a better place to visit. Knowing that Vienna has

their smart city strategy that makes their project successful in areas such as mobility,

environment, and digitalization.

There are other cities in Europe that also have their own smart city strategy, just like

London. London has been at the top ranked of the smartest city in the world. London’s smart
city strategy is generally focused round the institutional and digital space, instead of the

physical. It will be a campus proposed to support the growth of London’s technology sector,

combining business, technology, media, education and data to form a local system of

innovation.

Here are some differences between Vienna and London. When you walk in Vienna it

feels like a tourist compared to London it feels like home because of the gardens. London is not

a friendly city while VIenna is a safe and fairly flat city. There is more wind than London,

meaning the air quality in Vienna is better. Lots of buildings in London are made in red bricks,

whereas the primary color in Vienna is grey. In Vienna it is a home of music, people all around

the world have a soundtrack in their heads when you say the name of the city while in London

continually loud music from buskers, cars, shops and open windows. But aside from their

differences they also have common themes, both cities are beautiful, dramatic and much

photographed and both have interesting layers of architectural history, right back to the Romans.

3. What are the other innovative technologies that could be included to support

smart destination development?

Smart city models in intermediate tourist towns on their transition to becoming smart

destinations involve an inescapable commitment to their habitat and improving the quality of

civic life and the economy of cities through more sustainable and technologically advanced

elements. The other innovative technologies included to support smart destination development

are cloud computing, mobile apps, location-based services, geo-tag services, beacon

technology, virtual reality, augmented reality, and social networking services offer the tourism

industry new ways to support the smart destinations and to attract new visitors. The innovation

of technology brings advantages. It enhances efficiency and brings new and improved goods
and services to people that enhance their general standard of living. They could try to derail

innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities that could lead to further growth and long-term

prosperity. Concentrating solar power as one of the innovative technologies today could be

beneficial to smart destination development. As we know, the more technology we use, the

more energy we consume, and using mirrors to focus the energy of the sun to drive

conventional steam turbines or electricity-generating engines. It will support smart destinations

by conserving energy and electricity. It will be a big help most especially to those who own

business in a location.
