VIRTUAL PRESENCE

MATTERS
This is how you show up on
camera while in a virtual
meeting. It is your body
language, your voice, the
background, and whether or not
you’re able to connect with your
audience through a computer
screen.
1. Be on time
Let's make the most out of our
online sessions. Get to your virtual
meeting space a few minutes
before sessions and make sure your
internet connection and computer
are working.
2. TURN ON YOUR CAMERAS
- look at the camera when you talk, not
your screen/monitor
- raise it to eye level
- it is hard to connect with your audience
if your camera is closed.
- a virtual meeting is a meeting of live
faces.
- if you are an audience in an ongoing
webinar, you can turn off your camera.
- let your audience feel that you are talking
to them with your eyes on them.
3. Watch your
frame
- keep an eye on your frame so that
you know exactly where you are on
the camera.
4. Demonstrate
Strong Virtual
Presence
- virtual communication is a
combination of verbal and nonverbal
messages.
- how you sit and use your hands in
front of the camera matter.
5. Speak with
confidence
- your tone is confidence,
clear, and flowing then you
are good to go.
6. Engage your audience
- don’t contribute to other’s zoom or
online fatigue – engage your
audience.
- engage your audience by throwing
questions, thought provoking ideas
and discussions during meetings.
7. Limit Distractions

- choose an appropriate
background/backdrop
- use a neutral background (shades of
grey or white work well)
- virtual backgrounds are good but
others require a green background
8. Create good
Lighting
- be sure your desk has strong but
soft light sufficient to illuminate your
face.
- LED desk lamps with adjustable
intensity and hue are recommended.
- your presence will command
attention if they see you properly
9. Use a Laptop, not
phone
- while smartphones are very
convenient to use it is better
to use a laptop
- your image is more stable
with a laptop and you can
easily take notes with it.
10. Test the Technology
- request screen sharing, audio access and
web cam permission options beforehand.
Don’t do this during your talk.
- don’t forget to share audio especially
when you screen share video clips.
11. Use a good
Microphone
Reduce background noise and distractions.

Microphones can pick up background sounds that

may not bother you but may bother your
classmates and teacher. If you want to say
something in class, raise your hand and wait for
the teacher to acknowledge you before unmuting.
12. Dress Up
- a virtual meeting requires that you dress up
properly and decently.
a) During Virtual Worship Service
- Preachers who visit the Church to deliver
their sermons should wear short or long
sleeved polo (no t-shirts) paired with
slacks (no to jeans).
- PWT, MCs and technical people should be
on decent Sunday’s best attire (no to
shorts)
b) During other Activities i.e. LAYF, prayer
meeting, cell charger, BS, Cell Group, etc.
- any decent attire is ok
- be ready to open your cameras any time
13. Avoid multitasking
- refrain from answering chat, text or email
messages while engaged in a virtual meeting
- interaction may require checking the chat box
or the Q&A box.
