it, kindly chat your answers in the chat box. ma’am/sir.

I have a question, students. Is it okay to

steal/use someone else’s word or ideas “No, ma’am/sir’
without giving proper credits?

Yes, it is not okay to use someone else’s

ideas without giving proper credits because
it is considered as illegal. We have the so-
called Intellectual Property Rights that
gives legal rights to individuals or creators
protection for their original works. So,
students as early as now you should be
practicing giving proper credits to ideas and
contents that you get from the internet. In
this day and age, everything is readily
available from the internet, but it does not
give us the right to use everything from it
without giving credits to the owners. Are
we clear, class? Are you still with me,
kindly chat a heart emoji on the chat box to
see if you’re still listening?

What we’re going to tackle this afternoon

has something to do with citations.

Michelle Obama’s speech.
Plagiarism is no longer new to us, right?
Even the most popular individuals do
commit it.
D. Discussing new So, what is a citation? Base on your Students: it means to note for
concepts and background knowledge, what is the something; a reference or a mention;
practicing new skills definition of citation? Kindly chat it on the
No. 1 chat box. Yes, you are all correct.

According to plagiarism.org, a "citation" is

the way you tell your readers that certain
material in your work came from another
source. It also gives your readers the
information necessary to find that source
again, including:
• information about the author
• the title of the work
• the name and location of the
company that published your copy of
the source
• the date your copy was published
• the page numbers of the material
you are borrowing

Why should we cite sources?

Giving credit to the original author by

citing sources is the only way to use
other people's work without
plagiarizing. But there are a number of
other reasons to cite sources:

• citations are extremely helpful to

anyone who wants to find out more
about your ideas and where they came
from

• citing sources shows the amount of

research you've done

• citing sources strengthens your

work by lending outside support to your
ideas

• prevents plagiarism---an act of

stealing someone else’s ideas and
presenting it as their own

E. Discussing new
concepts and
practicing new skills

Take a look at the picture, class. What can

you see? Yes, you are correct. The picture
shows list of citations or sources.

One way of citing your sources is by listing

it on a separate page---usually found at the
end part of an academic paper. We usually
see it on the later part of a book and this
page called as a bibliography. It comes
from the Greek word biblio (book in
English and graphos (something written or
drawn. It contains an alphabetical list of all
the sources you’ve used in academic paper.
The sources may vary--- could be journals,
websites, periodicals, and so on.

There various ways to cite sources:

 APA Style- Developed by the

American Psychological
Association (APA). Used in social
and behavioral sciences.

 MLA is a referencing style that was

developed by Modern Language
Association (MLA). Used for
writing literature and related
subjects like theatre or film.
 Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS)
which is often used in many
academic fields, especially in the
humanities and sciences.

For this lesson, we will follow the

bibliography annotation standards specified
in the Chicago Manual Style (CMOS) 17th
edition.

There are also types and formats of sources.
