- Each pattern has its own properties and uses which make them
different from each other. The Definition pattern tells and presents the
reader what term or concept is being defined, it is also widely used in
Sciences and Humanities. The Exemplification pattern provides the
reader with essential examples from the topic being discussed or read
by the reader to enhance the reader’s understanding, this is mostly
used in school books and other literary works that is used specifically
for learning and sharing knowledge. The Chronology/procedure
pattern presents how something is supposed to be done in an
organized and orderly manner as well as organizing them in
chronological order or the exact order or sequence it occurred, an
example is in books and novels where the reader must follow a set of
events that are in order and chronologically sequenced. The
Description pattern provides information of what something is to the
reader with concrete and specific details for more contrast, for example
in a casual conversation if you want what you’re saying to be clear and
more precise to the listener. The Comparison and contrast pattern is
where the writer/author explores the similarities and differences of two
certain things being compared.
Where can you apply what you will be learning about the patterns of
development in writing?
