INTRODUCTION

The school is a social institution entrusted with the formal education of the youth in the

society. Sports activities have been known to be one component of the educational programs

(Sports-Track). The curriculum shapes instruction by mapping out for teachers what students

should be taught and how their acquisition of knowledge and skills should be assessed. The

provision of adequate facilities, supplies and equipment are as important as providing adequate

incentive for the athletes, but the lack of such adequate facilities, supplies and equipment use by

many often constitute a managerial problems.

NEED FOR THIS STUDY

It is estimated that 6 out of 10 students have the equipment to improve their skills

regarding to their fields in sports, and that out of this figure. There are still some students that

lacks the equipment. Thus, it results to funding the lack of equipment for the students to use in

times of activities. Traditionally, at the secondary schools level, facilities, supplies and

equipment management are usually the responsibilities of those persons who are in-charge of

physical education and sports programs. The facilities for which they are responsible including

the outdoor facilities. Facilities, supplies and equipment management includes not only the

effective scheduling, operation, and maintenance of such facilities, supplies and equipment but

also, at times, planning new structures to keep pace with the demand for participation in physical

education and sports programs of the school. (Crompton 2005; Cohen 1996; Flynn 1993; Pate et

al 1997).

BACKGROUND

Studies have shown that programs designed to improve the quality of Physical Education

can increase the amount of time that students are engaged in MVPA (Moderate-to-Vigorous

Physical Activity). The effective performance of physical education and sports programs in

secondary schools involves the Determination, allocation and development of funds for the

achievement of the school sports programs. Sports Studies examines different kinds of athletic

endeavor within the context of the broader culture, present and past. It commonly utilizes

methodologies derived from the social sciences, including history, sociology, economics,

psychology, and other disciplines. On average, secondary schools only have around 70% of the

necessary equipment they require for each upcoming academic year. This places more pressure

on schools, especially since the announcement from the Department for Education stating that

schools are responsible for managing their own budgets.

Schools are responsible for sourcing the correct school equipment and providing it to their

students, everything ranging from pencils to high-tech equipment. This can all eat into a school’s

budget and may result in making cuts in other places, so that the right equipment can be sourced.

OBJECTIVES

The research paper seeks to achieve its general objective of funding equipment in school: To

advance improvement skills of the student’s Physical Education in Sports Track.

1. To determine the improvement in skills of the student’s with the proper equipment to be

handed in school.

2. To assess the proper funding of the equipment that is necessarily needed in the student’s

performances.

3. To determine the influence of having good equipment to use in sports activities.

Research Questions

1. Does the lack of equipment have impacts on student’s performances?

2. How will it affect the students to advance in improving their skills and physical education in

Sports Track?

3. How will you assess the level of improvement in skills base on the student’s capabilities?

METHODOLOGY

The study intends to use a cross sectional survey in determining the lack of equipment to be

funded, this is also to gain or advanced the improvement in skills of the student’s physical

education in Sports-Track. The study will sample the number of students in Zamboanga del Sur

National High School (SHS) in Sports-Track. The study will collect both primary data and

secondary, and the quantitative data generated will be analyzed using descriptive statistics which

will include the percentage of lacking equipment. The qualitative data from the study will

undergo transcription and reported in themes and sub-themes. The relationship between the

independent and dependent variables will be explained through multiple regression.
