PROJECT SUMMARY STATEMENTS ON SUSTAINABILITY

The Nomadic Life: Semi-Permanent Low Cost Housing For
Fulani Nomads focuses on the lifestyle of Hausa seasonal
travelers that settle at areas of favorable environmental
conditions. Using one of their communities in Enugu, Nigeria,
we proposed a better accommodation solution that is more
Eco-friendly, enhances their culture, utilizes building materials
from the site and provides and architecture that gives them a
home away from home experience.
The concept of this project is Concentricity. All the common
facilities used by all are placed in the center. From the site
layout to the independent residential houses, the concentric
nature of the spaces effectively promotes their way of life.
Solving Shelter Problems For Itinerant Fulanis
The major goal of this project is to provide better housing
solutions for Fulani nomads. In regards to progress, the
building materials are used with more flexibility. Unlike the
existing, this model includes extra openings e.g windows to
enhance ventilation and lighting. The building techniques
center on simplicity and sustainability which is a major aspect
of the Fulani man.
To preserve the planet, the materials used a locally gotten
and can be dismantled. The structural members may or may
not be carried to the next location but the grass coverings can
be decomposed back into the environment.

Promoting the Fulani Culture in its architecture

The concentric nature of the site layout effectively gives
PROJECT DETAILS access to the public structures that are used by all the
members of the community. This also brings them together
for various cultural activities.
