General, Airframe, and Powerplant Certificates

The ASA Fast-Track Test Guides, and the Prepware for General, Airframe, and Powerplant Mechanic
have been prepared especially to help you get ready to take your FAA knowledge tests. Since the same
material is covered in your oral and practical tests, review all of the questions and answers in the
knowledge test portion of the Guides.
The questions that are included in the oral and practical test portion of this Guide are typical of those
you are likely to be asked. The practical projects listed in each section are typical of those the examiner
will likely use to check your level of skill. The actual questions and projects will depend upon the
examiner.
Your examiner is a knowledgeable technician who can evaluate your capabilities, so don't try to
"snow" him or her with words when you don't know the answer, and don't attempt any project that you are
not competent to handle. It is far better to admit your lack of knowledge or skill than to blunder into a
project which shows that you lack the judgment to properly evaluate your capabilities.
The ASA Aviation Maintenance Technician Series General, Airframe (Volume 1 and 2), and
Powerplant textbooks, and the Advisory Circular Handbooks; AC 65-9A, AC 65-12A, and AC 65-15A have
been prepared to provide an entry-level aviation maintenance technician with basic knowledge needed for
certification. When any project specifies that you use the proper reference materials, you are expected to
use the manufacturer's service information or documents published by the FAA. The examiner will have
on hand any reference materials you are expected to use, but it is your responsibility to know what
material you need and how to use it.
By passing your knowledge test, you have proven that you have the necessary level of experience
and knowledge, and the oral and practical tests are used to show that you have the needed skills.
