The United Nations held the Sustainable Development Summit on September 25, 2015
in New York City, USA. The summit came up with the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDG) which aims to end poverty fight inequality and injustice, and confront climate
change by the year 2020.
Activity 1: Critical Thinking
Instruction: Answer the following questions briefly but thoroughly.
• What is the focus of the 2030 Global Agenda?

The Global Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development seek to
end poverty and hunger, realise the human rights of all, achieve gender equality
and the empowerment of all women and girls, and ensure the lasting protection
of the planet and its natural resources.

• How different is the 2030 Global Agenda from the previous efforts on sustainable
development?

• How do you think the Philippines can achieve the agendas set by the United
Nations Development Program?

The strategies are: integration of environmental considerations in decision- making;


proper pricing of natural resources; roperty rights reform; establishment of an integrated
protected areas system; rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems; strengthening of
residuals management in industry.

Activity 2: Case Study


Instruction: Make a brief case study on one of the places below. Identify the examples
on how poverty, inequality, injustice, and the effect of climate change are seen and
experienced by the people. Afterwards, propose ways on how sustainable development
can be achieved.
