Important Safety Information

Illustration 1 g02139237

Work safely. Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions.
An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential

https://127.0.0.1/sisweb/sisweb/techdoc/techdoc_print_page.jsp?returnurl=/sisweb/sisweb/productsearch/productheaderinfoframeset.jsp&... 10/23/2021

hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills, and tools to perform these functions properly. Safety precautions and warnings
are provided in this instruction and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other
persons. Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard. Therefore, the warnings in this publication
and the warnings that are on the product are not all inclusive. If a tool, a procedure, a work method, or operating technique that is not recommended
by Caterpillar is used, ensure that it is safe for you and for other people to use. Ensure that the product will not be damaged or the product will not be
made unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance, or the repair procedures that are used.

Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair of this product

can be dangerous and could result in injury or death.

Do not operate or perform any lubrication, maintenance or repair on

this product, until you have read and understood the operation,
lubrication, maintenance and repair information.

Personal injury or death can result from improperly checking for a leak.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping

air or fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body
tissue causing serious injury, and possible death.

If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a

doctor familiar with this type of injury.

https://127.0.0.1/sisweb/sisweb/techdoc/techdoc_print_page.jsp?returnurl=/sisweb/sisweb/productsearch/productheaderinfoframeset.jsp&... 10/23/2021

Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot
oil or hot components to contact skin.

Pump test pressures in this guideline may exceed the normal operating
range of the hydraulic test hoses utilized when connecting the tested
pump to the test bench. However, the order of magnitude of these
pressures is significantly below the burst strength of the Caterpillar
"XT6" product.

High pressure oil can escape through improperly assembled hoses and
fittings. High pressure oil can also escape through poorly maintained
hoses and fittings. High pressure oil may also leak through hose that has
become damaged over the life of the hose due to the pressure levels that
occur during test bench operation.

Personal injury or death can result from improper hose & fitting
inspection or improper hose replacement procedures. Escaping fluid
under pressure can penetrate body tissue causing serious injury, and
possible death.

Thoroughly inspect all testing hoses, fittings, and quick disconnects

prior to any testing operation. Check the assembly date tag or hose
assembly log date for a hose life indicator. Replace all Test Bench hoses
at a minimum of every 2 years or earlier if the hose or fittings appear to
be damaged.

7. Connect one end of the hose to the outlet of the flow meter and route the other end of the hose back to the tank.

8. Connect a power supply to the electrical connector for solenoid (55). The power supply should be capable of delivering 0 mA to 1.5 A with an
infinite setting in that range.

1U-6392 Pressure Reducing Valve

If a signal pressure greater than the test bench's capability is required, the use of a pressure reducing valve is necessary. The pressure reducing valve
will use the pump's discharge to produce a signal less than the discharge pressure for use as a control pressure.

Connect one flow meter outlet from the test bench to port for inlet pressure (73). Connect port for outlet pressure (71) to the control port in need of
signal pressure. Connect outlet port to tank (69) to tank.

Use the gauge port for outlet pressure (72) to adjust the outlet signal pressure using the adjustment screw for outlet pressure (68). Adjust the outlet
pressure to the value needed for the control application.

Pump test pressures in this guideline may exceed the normal operating
range of the hydraulic test hoses utilized when connecting the tested
pump to the test bench. However, the order of magnitude of these
pressures is significantly below the burst strength of the Caterpillar XT6
product.

High pressure oil can escape through improperly assembled hoses and
fittings. High pressure oil can also escape through poorly maintained
hoses and fittings. High pressure oil may also leak through hose that has
become damaged over the life of the hose due to the pressure levels that
occur during test bench operation.

Personal injury or death can result during adjustment of the high

pressure relief valve if recommended hose maintenance practices are
not followed. Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate body tissue
causing serious injury, and possible death.

Adjustment of the high pressure cut or pressure override valve shall

only be performed when the pump is operating at a zero discharge
pressure condition. Continuation of the pump test procedure can be
resumed when this high pressure adjustment is completed.

6. The following step will verify the cross sensing. Before this step can be performed, refer to Illustration 15 for proper connections. Only connect
pilot pump oil to one pump's negative flow control port at a time. Vent the other pump's negative flow control port to the atmosphere. After
testing the cross sensing function on one pump, relocate the pilot pump oil to the other pump's negative flow control port. Repeat the test.

a. Apply current to the electrical connector for solenoid (55). Adjust the current to adjust power shift pressure. Use pilot pump to apply
pressure to one pump's negative flow control pressure port according to Step 6a of the Test Specifications. Load the discharge ports. The
discharge flow will decrease on the pump at high pressure. The other pump's flow will remain constant.

Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot
oil or hot components to contact skin.

Reduce RPM and all pressures to zero. Remove the component from the test bench. Drain the oil from the pump. Plug all of the ports.
