Artist Statement: The mixtape with the name, A Connection to an Acquaintance, follows the story of
a girl experiencing love at a young age. It travels through the lows and highs of the relationship, giving
us different kinds of feelings. The important points of this story wrap around her feelings throughout
the relationship. It goes through the beginning of the relationship, deep into the relationship, the
relationship falling apart, the breakup, and her moving on while becoming stronger at the same time.
I’m hoping this story can convey a message through people who are experiencing the same things. I
think these songs exceptionally express the feelings that people may not be able to express very well.
Some may make individuals who have been in a relationship be able to relate, while others may give
them hope that everything works out in the end. The frame of mind or feelings I created in this album
is one that most everyone can relate to. It can be both happy and sad, but it overall ends up content. I
think this mix definitely needs to be listened to by people who are getting over a breakup or even
people who are afraid of being in a relationship. This is because the songs correlate in a way that show
almost every part of dating someone, as well as the positive end-game. As an artist, I find that my work
shows a little bit of each side to me and what my experiences have been. Art is a way to show feelings or
pieces of myself that I don’t always express. I think A Connection to an Acquaintance communicates
this well because it is based on my first real relationship, with the exception of a few twists.

Song Analysis: A certain song on my mixtape, A Connection to an Acquaintance, called “I Could Use
a Love Song” by Marren Morris more or less sums up all the feelings included in the rest of the playlist.
The song is basically told through the artist singing it. It is about her as a young woman reflecting on
her past relationships, and wishing she could have something as special as love stories that are conveyed
through good love songs. The lines “That for me so far just seems to go so wrong” and “Yeah, I could use,
I could use a love song” gets repeated quite a few times throughout the song. This helps the story travel
because it shows the singer considering what she wants, and what she isn’t getting. This is a thought
process my character has throughout the whole album. As you listen to the song, the narrative of my
mix is brought out because the singer’s story matches my main character’s thought process of the
mini-album. I chose to put “I Could Use a Love Song” at the end of “A Connection to An Acquaintance”
because it not only includes most of the feelings my story conveys, but it is also a good continuation of
the story itself - making you wonder what happens in the future.
