SEMI-DETAILED LESSON
PLAN FOR GRADE 11
ENGLISH

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. Analyze and identify different kinds of communication
b. Distinguish different types of communication and its usage
c. Discuss Verbal, Non-Verbal, and Oral Communication

II. SUBJECT MATTER


a. Topic: Types of Communication
b. References: Oral Communication in Context (pages 21-31)
c. Materials: Power Point Presentation, Visual Aids, Laptop, Projector.
III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. DAILY ROUTINE
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Classroom Management

B. ACTIVITY (SAY A WORD)


The teacher will place a box on a table that contains different
phrases or expressions and a roulette which contains different
emotions like happy, sad, angry, scared, and surprised. The teacher
will now call five students to pick different phrases and say it but they
will also have to say it with emotions which they will choose with the
use of different emotions on the roulette. The student who will deliver
the phrases or expressions in an appealing way will have an incentive
from the teacher.

C. ANALYSIS (ACT AS IF…)


The teacher will group the class into three each group will
chose a leader or representative. The teacher will now show
different pictures and different scenarios which the students will
describe and explain in front of the class.

Group 1: A news team


Group 2: A Librarian

Group 3: A mail man

1. What did you notice on the scenarios and pictures t at you
explained?
2. Are the scenarios and the pictures you explained relevant or
connected with each other?

D. ABSTRACTION
(The teacher will have a brief discussion about what is
communication then will proceed to types of communication )
WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?
Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one
place, person or group to another. The transmission of the message
from sender to recipient can be affected by a huge range of things.
There are many types of how you will communicate three of them are:
NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION
This covers body language, gestures, how we dress or act, where we
stand, and even our scent. There are many subtle ways that we
communicate with others. For example, the tone of voice can give
clues to mood or emotional state, whilst hand signals or gestures can
add to a spoken message.

VERBAL COMMUNICATION
Verbal communication means sharing things by means of words spoke
which includes face-to-face, telephone, radio or television and other
media.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
This includes letters, e-mails, social media, books, magazines, the
Internet and other media. Until recent times, a relatively small number
of writers and publishers were very powerful when it came to
communicating the written word. Today, we can all write and publish
our ideas online, which has led to an explosion of information and
communication possibilities.

E. APPLICATION
The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups and give different
task in to perform specific scenario that shows verbal, non-verbal, and
written communication. Each group will be graded based on the rubrics
below.

GROUP 1: (TALK SHOW!)


o The students will act as if they are in a Talk Show that
explains how the verbal communication works and what
is the importance of it.

GROUP 2: (CAN’T TALK TO ME)


o The students will act like they are an instructor for mute
and deaf student and show how the non- verbal
communication works and its essence.

GROUP 3: (WRITE ME IN)


o The students will act as if they are novelist and show
how the written communication works and is it
convenient than the other types of communication.

GROUP 4: (THE CLASSROOM TOUR)


o The students will act like they are in a classroom tour
and show how the written communication, verbal
communication, and non-verbal communication works.
IV. ASSESSMENT
(The teacher will administer the test right after the discussion.)
