I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. Define intercultural communication;
b. Demonstrate effective intercultural communication skills in a speech situation.

B. MOTIVATION
 Watch a video of Dar Mhan about an Asian being discriminated by a racist
American.
 Teacher will ask questions after watching the video.

C. LESSON PROPER
 Teacher will discuss the definition and nature of Intercultural Communication.
Intercultural communication happens when individuals interact, negotiate, and
create meaning while bringing ion their varied cultural background (Ting-
Toomey, 1999)
 Discuss the different forms of Intercultural communication.
Interracial communication
Interethnic Communication
International Communication
Communication between religions
Communication between genders
Communication between People of Different Ages
D. APPLICATION
Form a small group of three to four students and each will prepare for a task and will
present their output in class. Each group will demonstrate various strategies on
becoming culturally sensitive when communicating across cultures using a short role
playing skit.

Group 3- Intercultural communication between ages

a. develop appreciation for different cultural perspective through demonstrating
effective intercultural communication.
II. SUBJECT MATTER

 Teacher will present different words of greetings to the students.
 Ask them what comes into their minds after reading.

1. The teacher will ask:
a. What do you think are the conflicts that we can encounter in intercultural
communication?
b. Why is it that people in different countries behave in different manner?
c. Do you think that culture and language are being connected when we
communicate? Why?
d. How are we going to have effective intercultural communication considering we
have different cultural perspective?
2. The teacher will process their answer that will lead them on how to develop
appreciation to different cultural perspective.

D. APPLICATION
Each group will pick up a certain situation and let them demonstrate effective
intercultural communication skill in order to solve the given problem.
1. You are Christian who grew up in America, then, you are going to meet your friend
who is a Muslim from Marawi.
2. In Marawi, you discover that they do not eat and serve your favorite food.
3. You met other people who do not know how to speak your language.
4. You wanted to go to church but they have different church and belief.
5. You wanted to go back home because you find it difficult living in their place.

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Answer the following question for two to three sentences.
1. Define intercultural communication.
2. How are you going to demonstrate effective intercultural communication when you are
surrounded with different people?

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. discuss the functions of communication. ( EN11/12OC-lbe-8)
b. respond to an effective communication considering gender roles in home and
society through a role play.

B. Motivation
 Show a picture of a family and ask the students:
What is the picture all about?
Do you think that effective communication can be achieved if all members of
the family respect gender roles in home and even in society? Why?

C. LESSON PROPER
ACTIVITY 1
Group Activity: Class will be divided into five groups. Let the students pick one picture
and explain how communication is being used in the picture.
Group 1: Emotional expression
Group 2: Information dissemination
Group 3: Motivation
Group 4: Control
Group 5: Social Interaction

Functions of Communication
1. Control- communication functions to control behavior.
2. Social Interaction- communication allows individuals to interact with others.
3. Motivation- communication encourages people to live better.
4. Emotional expression communication facilitates people’s expression of their
feelings and emotions.
5. information dissemination communication functions to convey information.
D. APPLICATION
Activity 2: group activity
Group 1: There is an acquaintance party in school wherein students are coming from
different places.
Group 2: Parents are talking to their children about the house rules.
Group 3. Children are complaining about the house rules.
Group 4. A teenager motivates the old ones.

E. GENERALIZATION

 Do you think that we are using the five functions of communication every day?
 How do gender roles in home or in society affect functions of communication?

IV. EVALUATION

Discuss or explain the functions of communication in the following sentences.


1. Vice Ganda and Charisse personally thank their supporters.
2. The President presents his plans for 2023.
3. The husband and wife agreed to have shared responsibilities at home.
4. June greets Rachel and they start talking about their plans.
