A Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in English Grade 11

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson 80% of the students should be able to;
A. distinguish the types of speech context;
B. perform the various speech context through a series of skits; and
C. develop awareness of how important it is to understand the various speech
situations.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Types of Speech Context
Reference: Oral Communication in Context for Senior High School pg.32-33
Materials: Laptop, projector, and whiteboard pen
Values: Freedom, Respect, Responsibility

III. Procedure/ Learning Activities


A. Preliminaries
1. Prayer
- Prayer will be led by a student.
2. Greetings
- The teacher will greet the students.
3. Attendance
- The teacher will check the attendance.
4. Review
- The teacher will ask some students to recall the lesson from the previous
discussion

B. Activity
Whispered Wonders !
There will be five groups in the class. A message will be provided to each group,
and they will form a column with their leader in the front and players whisper a
message to the person next to them, who then whispers it to the next person,
and so on. The goal is to see if the message stays the same by the time it gets
back to the original player.

C. Analysis
 To begin the lesson, the teacher will ask the students if they have the
background knowledge or idea about the topic they will be tackling for today.
 What have you noticed about the scenes you see based on the image that
is being displayed? (The teacher provide sample scene through the use of
projector)
 The teacher will then tackle or proceed to the lessons by giving the
students the information about the subject matter.

D. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss the following and provide examples:

Speech Context
- Context when referring to speech communication is the surroundings,
circumstances, environment, background or setting that determine, specify, or
clarify the meaning of an event.
- It refers to the situation or environment and the circumstances in which
communication occurs.

TYPES OF SPEECH CONTEXT

 Intrapersonal- refers to the communication that centers on one person


where the speaker acts both as the sender and the receiver of the message.
Example:
A person may use self-talk to calm himself down in a stressful situation.

 Interpersonal- this refers to communication between and among people and


establishes personal relationship between and among them.
Example:
You provided comfort to a friend who was feeling down.

Two types of Interpersonal Context


Dyad communication- communication that occurs between two
people.
Small group- communication that involves at least three but not
more than twelve people.

 Public- this type refers to communication that requires you to deliver or


send the message before or in front of the group.
Example:
You deliver a graduation speech to your batch.

 Mass communication- refers to communication that takes place through


television, radio, newspapers, magazines, books, internet, and other types
of media.
Example:
You are a student journalist articulating you stand on current issues through
the school’s newspaper.

E. Application
Five groups will be formed from the class. Each group will be given a table to
complete with the characteristics and examples (events, actions, and instances)
of each type of speech context.

IV. Evaluation

Identify the speech appropriate speech context (Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, Public, &
Mass Communication) on the following scenarios:

____ 3. A shy person may remind herself to smile during a social event.

V. Assignment
Interview one or two people in your town to learn more about there techniques for
enhancing a person's interpersonal and intrapersonal skills in the workplace. Provide
proof that you actually conducted an interview. You may attach a video or an audio.
