THE WORST TRANSPORTATION FACILITY IN BULUA CDO

One of the important things for a civilization is transportation. It helps in assembly of

raw materials and distribution of finished goods. It also allows the people to trade with
different places. It has already become so important to us that it is imposible to live without
it. Because of this, it is essential to maintain and develop transportation facilities. In this
paper, I am going to identify and evaluate the worst transportation facility in our area which
is in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.

In order to identify the worst tranportation facility, one must know first what it is.
Transportation facility means any road, bridge, tunnel, overpass, ferry, airport, mass transit
facility, vehicle parking facility, port facility or similar commercial facility used for the
transportation of persons or goods, together with any buildings, structures, parking areas,
appurtenances, and other property needed to operate such facility. In Bulua, the
tranportation facilities that I can identify are overpass, mass transit facility, small parking
areas, and road. Among these, the worst is a mass transit facility called Westbound
Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal. Beside this terminal is also the Westbound Public
Market.

The problem in this terminal is mainly
the jeepney terminal. As you can see in
Figure 3, instead of jeepneys, we can see the
vegetables that are supposed to be only seen
in the market. The terminal is now made into
an extension of the market.

Figure 3: Jeepney terminal full of vegetables

About 90% of its area is occupied by

vendors including their vehicles.
Sometimes, this can cause traffic in the
terminal.

The area for the jeepneys are sacrificed

because the vendors extend theirs even to the
point that the jeepneys are the one adjusting
to them. This makes it hard for people to
access the jeepney because the vendors are
blocking them.

Although the terminal has an exit, it is not used at all since the exit is all the way to
the end of the terminal and the jeepneys are only located near the entrance. Because of the
crops sold in the terminal, the terminal is now soiled just like any other markets. This is very
unacceptable especially with the odor. The facility is still functional but not the same as
before when it was clean and organized.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Altough it is a good idea to extend the market to the jeepney terminal, there
should be a limit to the extent of their occupation. Jeepneys should still be
prioritized and given enough space. Each stall should be cleaned by the vendors
themselves to not cause unpleasant odor or mud. Vehicles parked by the vendors
should be only on one side of the terminal to not cause traffic and disorder to the
jeepney operators and passengers.
