Title: Emerging and Re-emerging Bacterial Disease Awareness

Program
Objectives:
This program aims to provide awareness about the Emerging and Re-emerging Bacterial
Disease in Barangay 128 Smokey Mountain, Marcos Road, Radial Road 10, Tondo, Manila.
Specifically, this aims to:
1. Identify the causative agent for Emerging and Re-emerging Bacterial Disease present
in Barangay 128, Smokey Mountain in terms of:
1.1 Scientific Name
1.2 Origin
1.3 Fatality
1.4 Mode of transmission
2. Conduct a seminar/webinar in the Barangay to combat bacteria-induced illnesses
amidst their situation in terms of:
2.1 Awareness
2.2 Safety Intervention
3. Convince the resident in the area to clean and sanitize their home and surrounding.
Rationale of the project
Barangay 128 in Tondo, Manila is known as Smokey Mountain for its mountain like stockpile of
garbage. It served as the dumping site of Manila for decades, preferably more than 40 years. Many
scavengers resided in the area making use of garbage stuff and forming a community of slum dwellers. It
was soon closed in 1995.

Today, another dumping site is operated in Payatas dumpsite. It was found, that the slum
dwellers migrated in the said new area surviving with landfill’s rubbish. A study showed that 200
scavengers died and as of year 2007, 80, 000 people are still there.

As a Future Medical Technologists, we are concerned about the health risk they live along. We
would like to identify the pathogens that preferably contributes to their mortality rate and conduct
seminar/webinar to achieve our highest objective of convincing them to relocate.

Materials
1st Part: Surveillance
