Integumentary System

INSTRUCTION/S: Identify the following parts of the skin below and provide its function. Answer
the remaining set of questions. This activity is worth 20 points.

1. Epidermis
- Is the outermost layer of skin, it provides a waterproof barrier and creates for our skin
tone.
2. Dermis
- Is to support and protect the skin and deeper layers, assist in thermoregulation, and aid
in sensation.
3. Subcutaneous layer
- It is made up mostly fat cells and connective tissues. It acts as a layer of insulation to
protect your internal organs and muscles from shock and changes in temperature. It
also provides your body with an energy reserve.
4. Hair shaft
- It protects the skin in a variety way. It regulates body temperature, protecting sensitive
parts of the body from harm and facilitating the evaporation of sweat.
5. Sweat pore
- are used to regulate temperature and remove waste by secreting water, sodium salts,
and nitrogenous waste (such as urea) onto the skin surface.
Identify which of the skin layers is associate to the following. Choose from Epidermis. Dermis or
Subcutaneous layer.
6. Produces melanin – Epidermis
7. Is made of up 1-50 layers of dead skin – Subcutaneous layer
8. Innermost Layer of the skin – Subcutaneous layer
9. Contains nerve endings – Dermis
10. blood vessels passes through and can be found in this layer – Dermis
