Casting Call: Sleeping Trees’ Sleeping Beauty and the Beast

Sleeping Trees are seeking two dynamic comedic actors to join them onstage in their latest
Christmas creation Sleeping Beauty and the Beast.

We are seeking applications from non-white or Global Majority performers only.

Dates and Details of Engagement:

Casting:
Third round physical auditions will take place at Battersea Arts centre on Monday 23rd August.

Rehearsal Dates:
2 days in October for RnD session. This will focus on the whole team getting to know each other prior to
November rehearsals. Exact dates tbc.
1st November - 25th November (Monday - Friday with the possibility of Saturday rehearsals) at Battersea
Arts Centre.

Performance Dates: 26th November - 30th December.

(No performances on 29th & 30th Nov, 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 25th, 26th Dec)

Fee: £4670
£500/week x 9 rehearsal & performance weeks
£85/day x 2 RnD days
Expenses:
Subsistence: £370
Travel: £690

Applications and Audition Details:

Please send headshot, cv and short cover letter to Producer Alice Carter by 5pm Tuesday 10th August.
If successful you will be asked to submit a self tape of a scene from the show by Tuesday 17th August.
Final round in person auditions will take place on Monday 23rd August at Battersea Arts Centre.

Casting Breakdown:
2 performers. Playing age 21+. Gender not specified. Applications from non-white or Global Majority
performers only.

Essential Skills:
•    Strong physical and vocal performers: experience of character work and multi rolling
essential.
•    Training in or experience of clowning and working with an audience.
•    Excellent improvisation skills.
•    Have a good ear for music and able to sing.
•    A good sense of humour and team player.
•    Ideally have seen Sleeping Trees perform or know of our work.

About The Show:

Ever wondered where Pantomime villains go at the end of the story? 

They go to Goodie-versity: the institute for reformed baddies, where Headmasters Beast
and Belle teach them to be good.

This Christmas Eve, the baddie class of 2021 are just one day away from their Gooduation
when, DISASTER STRIKES… 

Someone has sent Beast to sleep and he won’t wake up! And without Beast, there can be
no Gooduation day!

With nearly everyone a suspect, we’re going to need your help to crack this Christmas
case!

The creators of Goldilocks & the Three Musketeers return to BAC with a brand new panto
mash-up, full of songs, live music and interaction for all ages! So grab your magnifying
glass, put on your best detective hat and help Sleeping Trees solve this merry mystery.

About Sleeping Trees:

Sleeping Trees are a multi-award winning trio who create surreal, physical and fast-paced
comedy. The company’s work is rooted in comedy, mime and physical theatre technique.
Formed in 2014 they have made 14 shows to date, including three live family Christmas
shows and one Christmas living room adventure film.
This project will be Sleeping Trees’ second collaboration with Battersea Arts Centre
following 2019’s sold out run of Goldilocks & the Three Musketeers.
Sleeping Trees 2020 digitally streamed Christmas film, The Legend Of Moby Dick
Whittington, won the Offie Award for Best Family Show and was recommended by The
New York Times.
