1. OBJECT
1.1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to provide guideline for the checks to be
performed for warranty inspection for Vacuum Skids of Air Cooled Condenser in
accordance with SEC specification reference Schedule C, Attachment BF-X-A.

2. DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The Purpose is to carry out the warranty inspection of the vacuum pumps of air cooled
condenser supplied by M/s. SPX. The function of these pumps is, the non–condensable
have to be evacuated from the condenser before steam can be introduced at start-up
(hogging process) and should be continuously removed during normal operation (holding
process).
For hogging purpose 3 x 50 % vacuum pumps (B0MAJ61 AP001, B0MAJ62 AP001 and
B0MAJ63 AP001) are provided. When “hogging”, the requirement is to lower the
pressure as quickly as possible. In this case two pumps are required to decrease from
atmospheric pressure to 338.6 mbar in 30 minutes.
During operation, air must also be extracted (holding operation). For holding, in normal
operation, one pump is required (e.g. B0MAJ61 AP001 and B0MAJ62 AP001 normally
stopped if B0MAJ63 AP001 has been selected). Each of those pumps is designed for
35.7 kg/h air ingress. Ideally the control should alternate the pump skids for holding
functions.

3. SCOPE OF WORK:

3.1. The Scope of Work is to carry out the Warranty Inspection for Vacuum Pumps Skids of
Air cooled condenser, such as:
1) Visual inspection of all pump parts
2) Check no leaks are present.
3) Visual Inspection of any defective of the equipment
4) Overall check of the control instruments and devices
5) Check the Storage water tank and sight glass
6) Check the pipes and valves, leaks,
7) check connecting elements.

Note: Detailed Check list is attached in the Clause 6 of this document.

4. METHOD STATEMENT: The following steps are to take to carry out the warranty
inspection of the vacuum pumps of Air cooled condenser.

1. The calibrated instruments to be used to carry out the inspection.

2. The vacuum pumps/motors to be in safe operation mode.
3. All the gauges and transmitters to be checked.
4. Two vacuum pumps, out of the three are selected for hogging operation.
5. The cooling system of the two selected pumps is in operation (e.g. B0MAJ61/62 HE001
for hogging).
6. The water level in all the pump separators to be checked.
7. A distinction should be made between the following modes of operation that is Hogging,
vacuum operation and holding vacuum pump operation and the operation to be
checked.

5. RISK ASSESMENT:
Common causes of violent rupture of a vacuum system component are blockage or
restriction of pump exhaust. To avoid hazards, following to be considered.

1) Ensure that exhaust blockages should not occur during operation, either because of
mechanical components (for example, valves or blanks) or because of process materials
or by-products depositing in pipelines, filters and other exhaust components, unless your
system has been designed to cope with it.

2) Ensure that the accidental over pressure of a deliberately closed and isolated vacuum
system should not occur.
