With the continuous evolution of Technology in our world, the Internet has proven itself to be
more a constant entity. As part of the advanced technology, online games are becoming more
popular these days because many students are stuck within their respective homes. Technically,
online games are video games that can be played on smartphones, laptops, computers, or any
technology that can be connected via the Internet (Aviso, 2021). The study aims to conduct
research to grade 12 STEM Students of PHINMA UPANG, because of the increasing popularity
of the Internet has brought many changes to our daily lives. In particular, this growth has also led
to the rise of online games. Online games can refer to any type of game that someone can play
over the Internet or computer network (Tolentino, 2012). Playing online games isn't just to lose
stress or depression. Many studies are studying its impact on the lifestyle and behavior of
players, especially children. Therefore, the correct integration of acting and imitation into the
educational process is often left to the educator`s own decision. The paper outlines the
advantages, disadvantages, and other implications of using the Internet to collect data from
respondents. Based on the experience of numerous addiction studies conducted online by the
author and the review of the methodological literature on online data collection from student
gamblers and non-gamblers, the main issues with the data collected from the online game are
discussed and examined over the internet (Griffiths, 2009). We will track our topic and conduct
an interview or survey on our data to find out what we want to know for our study or topic. We
will conduct a survey using the Google form and distribute it to our selected respondents.
Online game is a video game that is played with Internet Guide or any other computer network
available. Some people think that online gaming is a form of entertainment. Online games are
also used as a tool to help get rid of the stress of life. However, due to the excessive use of online
games, people become addicted to it, which can cause many health problems such as blurred
vision, headache and neck pain and also mental issues which lead to many gaming disorders.
A.V. (2019, June). According to Indian studies, it showed that the majority of the students
expressed that playing online games has adverse effects on their academic performance such as
“They cannot focus on their studies” (Verecio, 2018). Aziz et al. (2018) stated that Malaysian
youth tends to escape loneliness and reality more to be involved in digital/technological
addiction. They love their virtual/online life instead of their current reality life. Internet use-
related addiction, specifically, gaming addiction problems are increasingly being recognized on
a-European scale due to international health organizations considering gaming addiction. In
April 2013, the American Psychiatric Association recognized Internet Gaming Disorder in the
fifth Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and in April 2018, the World Health
Organization included Gaming Disorder in the eleventh International Classification of Diseases
(Fernandez & Kuss, 2020). Academics and law enforcement convened in Pittsburgh last month
for the e-Crime Researcher's Summit to explore spam, phishing, and massively distributed apps.
Based on their work in online gaming security, they gave a keynote. One fascinating feature of
internet games is the legal ambiguity in which they operate in terms of security. Simply said, the
current state of computer law in regards to cheating in online games is unsatisfactory. In the
national context, a study conducted by the Pangasinan State University, spending some of the
child's time playing games will not maximize the child's potential in school, especially playing
online games, the challenge is not only to defeat the computer but also to defeat the real person,
who dominated the game. Online gaming will replace time originally spent on other educational
activities (such as reading and homework), negatively impacting academic performance (Gentile,
Lynch, Linder & Walsh, 2004). Online games here in Pangasinan are one of the most enjoyable
pastimes of Filipinos, especially teenagers, children, and students. By examining the way online
games can affect your academic performances due to many negative impacts like addiction,
degrading their studies and healthy life. Many students neglect their study because of online
games. That gives the researcher the idea to conduct research about the Effect of Online Games
in the Academic Performance of students, specifically, the Grade 12 STEM Students of
PHINMA-University of Pangasinan school year 2021-2022. It would educate the students
specifically the Grade 12 STEM students in PHINMA about the risks of playing online games
because they are the subjects of this study, senior high school grade 12 STEM students will
profit from it, as it will tell them how playing online games can have a big impact on their
learning capacities. The study would also be used by higher-ups to determine what actions
should be taken in the instance of a student who is playing internet games. They are the ones
who can come up with new approaches or concepts to help kids learn more effectively. It would
serve as their foundation for determining what moves they should make in a web-based gaming
environment.
Almost all countries are currently affected by the Covid19 pandemic and it is true that students
are among those affected by the never-ending situation. Online games have entered the lives of
all young students and based on collected and accumulated research, they have both positive and
negative effects. In fact, online games are a type of medium that is often associated with adverse
health effects. Online games, on the other hand, can be a helpful spin-off in getting rid of life's
stresses, as well as a motivation to escape mental health issues, including through developing and
improving social skills. Online games are a form of media that is often associated with negative
health consequences. However, when games are played in moderation and with mindfulness,
they are viable source of stress relief as well as a catalyst for mental health improvement and
development of social skills. Online games themselves are a relatively modern form of
entertainment. Although excessive playtime can have negative consequence, Gaming in
moderation can be healthy fun and educational.
