ENVIRONMENT : CLIMATE

As Asia is known for being a large continent,

each of its regions varies in terms of their
climate, which affects the living, wildlife and
vegetation. Climate in Asia ranges from hot
and wet in the south, tropical and temperate in
between and extreme cold and dry in the
north.

Factors affecting the climate in the Asia

Distance from the sea- varies climates within

the interior and exterior Asia.

Monsoon Winds- influence the climate of large parts of Asia by affecting the distribution of
rainfall over many countries.

Direction of Mountain Ranges-extends in the east- west direction and form barrier to the
moisture laden by cold and warm winds.

Ocean Currents- transports warm water from the northern regions and carrying cooler water
back toward the equatorial regions.

9 Climatic Regions in Asia

1. Equitorial Type- hot and humid through the year and found in Malaysia and Indonesia, Brunei
and Singapore. Summer and winter temperature ranges from 30 to 27℃ and due dense
vegetation animals like monkeys ,sloths, tree lizards, tree frog, snakes are found here.

Products: Rice, soybeans, cotton, poultry, wheat.

2. Monsoon Type- summer winters are cold with a distinct rainy season caused by the
southwest monsoon winds during summer. Found in Asia, Pakistan , Bangladesh Sri Lanka,
Myanmar, Thailand , China, Thailand Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Western Philippines.
Animals such as Elephants (India and Myanmar), Tiger, monkey and snakes like King Cobra.

Products: Mangoes, rice, tea, pineapples, cane, yam, tapioca and livestock.

3. Tropical Dessert- have winters, summer and very little

rain found in a Arabian desert in Saudi and Thar Desert in
India and Pakistan. The hot and dry conditions in in this
region allow very little vegetation, that is why plants here
obtain and conserve water in different ways, e.g. cactus,
thorny bushes. Animals here have abilities to go without
water for long time such as scorpion, lizards, various type of insects, mules, horses especially
camels.

Products: Gasoline, Barley, dairy products, eggs, flowers.

4. Mediterranean Type- found in a very small part of Asia and receives rain in winter only.
Turkey and other countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea like Syria, Lebanon and Israel
have this type of climate. Plants in this climate adapted to survive long hot dry summers and
less wildlife are found here as vegetation's were removed.

Products: livestock production, dates, avocados, olive oil.

5. Temperate Grassland – found in Eurasia known as steppes are found in a belt extending
from Ukraine in Europe into lake Balkash and beyond into Southwest Siberia and Eastern
Mongolia. Winters are very cold, summers are hot and small amounts of rain are experience.

Products: Ornamental plant, barley, wheat

6. Temperate Dessert or Gobi Dessert- stretches from steppes into

Mongolia. Summers here are hot, with little rainfall, extremely cold during
winter and the temperature remains below freezing for several months.

.Products: Coal, Mineral gasoline, wool, copper

7. China Type- summers are hot, with moderate rainfall and winters are
mild . It rains throughout the year with more rain on summer and found in
central and eastern China, Japan and Korea. Mixed forest are found in the
region of china type of climate and commonly evergreen trees, oak,
camphor ,camellia and magnolia trees as well as bamboo grew in this
region.

Products: Vegetable, fruits, livestock, rice

8. Taiga - also known as the Coniferous Forest or the Siberian Type

Climate, this stretches continuously through Northern Russia and
Northern Siberia. Severe cold winters last here for seven months
and the summers are warm and short with little moderate rainfall
while vegetation is consist of coniferous trees like pine, fir, spruce
and cedar and species that can live here are fur bearing animals
like squirrels.

Products: grains, barley, legumes and winter wheat.

9. Tundra- Winters are long and severely cold while summers are cold and short. This climate
are found in northern part of Russia wherein mosses and lichens are the plants that can survive
while animals like polar bear, Arctic fox, other thick fur animals, especially deer.
V. GENERALIZATIONS:

Asia as the largest continent does not just surprise the world with its size but how it
becomes a home for diversity in terms of many aspects. Based on its history wherein the name
Asia was derived to depict a civilization that arose in the east, its development continues to
prosper through centuries. As mentioned above, the continent as a home for diversity is not only
shown in topographical features but also with people and species inhabiting there. Also as
people continue to adapt to its different climates and phenomenons, cultures transpire, and just
like a flower continues to bloom as time flies.

Furthermore, Asia as the home of different societies that strive for advancements, economic
growth, and global competitiveness, the countries continue to maximize their resources and
adaptation to address economic issues as well as a medical crisis, specifically the global
pandemic which drastically affected not just Asia but other neighboring continents.

On the other hand, as we talk about Asia, it is crucial that aside from just being an
inhabitant, we should also have this eagerness in mind to know and understand such wonderful
knowledge about the continent and its countries. Furthermore, in the context of having
diversified culture, studying Asia helps a person to understand these differences and respect
each other as part of a region. Lastly, as we respect one another and know the importance of
knowing this learning, we will be able to take part in continuing the heritage and progress of the
region and celebrate our differences as a nation.
