1. Describe the factors affecting the climate of
Asia

A. Distance from the Sea


I. Many parts in the interior of Asia have extreme temperatures as the
sea can’t help in moderating the climate hence the places receive uneven
weather conditions.

II. Mongolia which is not surrounded by any water body has extreme
climates, it gets extremely hot in summers and extremely cold during
winters.

B. Mountain Ranges

I.The mountain ranges of Asia going towards the east west direction block the path of
rain bearing winds coming from the south and bring rain to the areas which lie on the
windward side of the mountains.

II. The Himalayas act as a barrier to the cold winds rising from Central Asia.
Rainforest type (A)

Climate: The climate in these rainforests is warm and humid.This is ideal for a lot of
species.

Vegetation/Wildlife: Due to the idea conditions, there are a lot of species that live
here such as Mountain Gorilla, Blue Morpho Butterfly, Okapi,Jaguar and many more.For
vegetation, there are many too, some of them are ferns, mosses, fungi and other small plants
are found here because they do not need much sunlight to grow.There are various types of tall trees
too (fact:these are the ones that block sunlight for the bottom).

Area Covered: There are about 17 major rainforests in Asia alone.

Hot and dry deserts and not the
other types

2. Desert in Asia (E)

Climate: Desert climate is hot, dry and mildly moisturized.It lacks rainfall.

Natural Vegetation/Wildlife: Due to their conditions, desserts don't have a lot of


vegetation but they commonly have species of Cactus, acacia, date palm, a few flowering
plants.The wildlife in deserts mostly include different types of foxes,rodents,lizards/snakes, birds,
camels etc.

Areas Covered: There are 18 main deserts in Asia spread in multiple areas as we
can see in the picture on the bottom-right.

Tropical Monsoon(B)

Wildlife/Vegetation: This Climatic zone also have quite a lot of species such as Bearded
pigs,Frill-necked lizard, The giant Bornean leech etc.The vegetation include Broad-leaf trees,Vines and
Lianas,etc.

Climate: It is usually wet,moist and there are heavy winds too.

Area Occupied: Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, parts of Vietnam and south China
are places where you can find this climatic zone.
Arctic or Tundra type (I)

Wildlife/Vegetation: The wildlife includes animals like the Arctic Fox, Muskox,
Mountain Goats etc.The vegetation include Lichens, mosses, bearberries etc.

Climate: Its a pretty dry area, it is extremely cold throughout.

Area Occupied: Most of it is towards the northern Asia, in Russia.This region is also
one of the closest to the North Pole.
