PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2

Quarter 1 - Module 4
INDICATING SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF
THE STUDY
I. INTRODUCTION
The entire research should contain specific information, inputs and components. In order to attain
this, there are certain parts of the research that provide an overview of the contents of the study. These
include the scope and delimitation and the written statement of the problem.

II. VOCABULARY LIST

 Statement of the Problem- This part states the clear objectives of the study. It is composed of general
objectives in sentence form and specific objectives in interrogative or question form.
 Scope and Delimitation of the Study- This part tackles and specifies the focus or subject matter of the
study, the scope of the research in terms of locale, respondents, period and objectives

III. PRE-TEST
Directions: Write T if the statement is correct and F if it expresses a wrong concept.
1. The scope and delimitation contain research questions.
2. The statement of the problem discusses the legal basis and motivation of the study.
3. The statement of the problem conveys the specific objectives of the research.
4. The focus of the study is the first element that should be cited in the scope and delimitation.
5. Both the statement of the problem and scope and delimitation provide a clear overview of the contents of
the study.

IV. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Indicating Scope and Delimitation of the Study

 Scope – states the coverage of the study. It contains the specific contents, concepts, subjects or
respondents and the period of the study.
 Delimitation - states the factors or variables that are excluded or not covered by the study. It states the
excluded contents in terms of objectives, time frame, respondents and other components. Through
delimitation, the researcher is able to specify what to be excluded in the study.

The scope and delimitation of the study should also answer the questions below:
What - the focus and variables of the study
Where - the locale of the study
When - period of the study
Why - objectives of the study
Who - respondents or informants
How - methodology and data collection tools

Example of a Good Scope and Delimitation:

The main objective of the study was to assess the status of implementation of DepED
Computerization Program in SDO Camarines Norte. The objectives of the study was limited to evaluating
the status of DCP in the locale, determining the opportunities offered by DCP in schools and identifying the
challenges along the implementation of DCP.

1
The methodology was limited to Descriptive method and survey-questionnaire as the tool for data
collection. The respondents were limited to 100 elementary teachers in SDO Camarines Norte, selected
through purposive sampling. The period of the study was also limited to school year 2019-2020.
What: The main objective of the study was to assess the status of implementation of DepED
Computerization Program.
Where: SDO Camarines Norte

determining the opportunities offered by DCP in schools and identifying the challenges along the
implementation of DCP.
How: The methodology was limited to Descriptive method and survey-questionnaire as the tool for
data collection.
Who: The respondents were limited to 100 elementary teachers in SDO Camarines Norte, selected
through purposive sampling.
When:The period of the study was also limited to school year 2019-2020.

Statement of the Problem

Statement of the Problem is clearly presents the objectives of the study. There are two types of
objectives reflected in the statement of the problem. The general objectives and specific objectives. The
general objective is typically in declarative sentence. Meanwhile, the specific objectives are in question
form.
Example:
General Objective: The study aimed to assess the utilization of blended learning approach in teaching
Science V in Daet District schools, school year 2017-2018.
Specific Objectives:
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the level of performance of the grade five pupils in Science before the implementation of
blended learning approach?
2. What instructional practices are employed by the teachers to integrate blended learning approach
in Science V instruction as to:
a. combined teaching methods
b. instructional materials
c. learning activities and
d. learning assessment?
3. What is the level of performance in Science V of the respondents after the implementation of
blended learning approach?
4. Is there a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the respondents?
5. What blended learning materials can be developed to enhance the performance of the learners in
Science V?

V. TASKS
Practice Task:
Directions: Read carefully the example of scope and delimitation below, then classify the contents that fall
under the questions what, where, when, why, who and how.

This study was focused on the opportunities and challenges of on-line learning during pandemic. The
objectives were limited to the level of readiness of Daet Elementary School in conducting on-line learning
during pandemic and identifying the opportunities and challenges linked with on-line learning during the
crisis.
The respondents were limited to the 30 faculty members of Daet Elementary School, selected
through purposive sampling. The data were collected using descriptive survey forms. The period of the
study was from June 2019 to March 2020.

TEACHING CREATIVELY IN SCIENCE IN SELECTED GRADE FIVE PUPILS IN DAET

SOUTH DISTRICT USING BLENDED LEARNING APPROACH
This study aimed to analyze how the Science V teachers in Daet District facilitate the creative
teaching of Science through the use of blended learning approach. Specifically, it sought to answer the
following questions:1. What is the pre-test score of the grade five pupils in Science before the
implementation of blended learning approach?; 2. What are the current practices of the Grade V teachers
employed in teaching Science in Daet District in terms of:a. strategies; b. approaches and; c. methods?; 3.
What instructional practices are undertaken by the teachers to teach Science creatively through the Blended
Learning Approach as to the use of: a. blended teaching strategies; b. combined use of teaching-learning
materials; c. mixed instructional activities and d. blended learning assessment?; 4. What is the post-test
score of the respondents after the implementation of the blended learning approach?; 5. Is there a significant
difference between the post-test score of the control and experimental group?; and 6. What teaching-learning
materials can be developed based from the implementation of the blended learning approach?
The study employed the Descriptive method of respondents. The respondents were in two groups, the
selected grade five teachers and pupils of Daet District. The pupil-respondents were further divided into two
groups-the control and experimental groups. The experimental group was exposed to blended learning
approach while the control group was taught using the traditional, non-blended learning methods. The data
were gathered using survey-questionnaires, interview-guide, pre-test and post-test in Science. The data
gathered were treated using weighted mean and t-test.
