SUMMARY
A father and 14 years old daughter suffer up to 50% burns after dryer at LaundryBar outlet
in Jalan 3E, Bandar Putera 2 in Klang laundrette exploded. The explosion happens because there
are gas tank was storing at the compartment inside the outlet. The explosion occurred when the
husband had operated the machine like normal and pressed the “Start” button on the dryer, which
triggered the blast. From the preliminary investigations said that the dryer was experiencing
technical problems and the burst was caused by sparks flying at the back of the machine where the
gas tank was stored. Both of the victims will get compensation from the business owner.

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION
The recommended solution towards this issue is the laundrette owner should be more aware
about the numerous risks within their business. The real cost of a major loss incident is not only
the direct loss or damage, but also the safety of the customers. There ara some risk for laundry
business especially the spontaneous combustion of laundry items. Other important risk areas
include security and electrical safety. So, it’s important for the business owner to have good risk
management programmes in place to control risk related to general housekeeping, waste
management and health and safety.
Fire represents a significant risk for any business, but particularly laundries with their
constant use of dryers and the risk of spontaneous combustion. The reality is that the only proven
method of controlling a laundry fire is with a properly designed and maintained automatic sprinkler
system. However, it’s important to have hand-operated fire extinguishers available as well.
Basically, the owner should regularly maintain fire extinguishers and set the fire safety for laundry
buildings includes sprinkler systems and monitored fire detection alarms.
When starting on the risk management programmes, it’s important for business owner to
check the insurance policy and any endorsements that are applicable to it. The policy and
endorsements need to set out exactly what their insurer will pay for as a result of accidental loss,
and what are not their insured for. It is particularly important that the owner understand any
exclusions that may apply to your insurance policy. Having the right cover and adequate sum
insured is critical to the business owner surviving a significant loss.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, it is easy to start a laundry business. It's all about being in a strategic
location, having all machines working, good and friendly staff, keeping customers happy, and
managing the books well are the key to be successful in the laundry business. But, at the same
time there are a few things that will happen at the laundry such as an exploded incident or else
incidents.
The incidents at the laundrette can be reduced as long as the business owner be more
aware with all possibility that may occurs at the laundry. The incident at the laundrette will occur
if the owner careless and did not aware to customers safety when they use the washing machine
and dryer. The owner should checking the environment at the laundry and the maintenance of
machine at their laundrette more frequent.
