BUSINESS OVERVIEW

The transportation industry is responsible for moving people, animals, and goods
from one location to another, whether by land, air, or sea. This large industry

includes a wide variety of organizations, such as travel airlines, railways, and
cruise lines, municipal transportation companies, freight railways, cargo trucking,
and air and express delivery services. These companies may ship within certain
regions of the United States or both nationally and internationally. According to
Select USA, the U.S. transportation and logistics industry accounted for 8.3
percent of the annual gross domestic product, with spending in this industry
totaling $1.45 trillion in 2014.
The trucking industry employs heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers to transport
goods regionally or across multiple states. Truck drivers work for general freight
trucking, specialized freight trucking, and wholesale trade companies. There are
also delivery truck drivers who pick up and deliver small shipments and packages
within urban areas and certain regions. They drive smaller trucks than those of the
heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, because they transport merchandise from
distribution centers to business offices and homes. Other jobs in trucking
companies include hand laborers and material movers, and material recording
clerks.
Box truck business is classified under the moving and storage industry in the U.S
and this industry are as diverse as the country itself. The industry’s national trade
group, AMSA represents all facets of the industry: agents, forwarders, independent
carriers, international movers, suppliers and van lines.
Statistics has it that The Moving and Storage industry in the United States of
America consists of 7,000 companies operating at 13,900 locations primarily
providing moving and storage services for household and office goods. Major

names in the United States include van lines, van line agents, independent full-
service movers, international movers, forwarders, and auto transporters.

The moving and storage industry employs 122,600 people with an annual payroll
of $3.6 billion and it is composed of mostly individual van/truck owners operating
their businesses on a small scale.
The basic services rendered by the operators in the moving and storage industry
include local and long-distance transportation of household and office goods;
warehousing and storage services; packing and packaging services; process,
distribution, and logistics consulting; merchandise sales and other services.
Starting and operating a box truck company can be capital intensive and
challenging, but the truth is that it can be rewarding at the same time. One good
thing about the industry is that it is open for both big-time investors who have the
capacity to start the business with a fleet of trucks and aspiring entrepreneurs who
may want to start with just one truck.

King Hoods Trucking is a registered and licensed truck company in Atlanta GA.,
in the United States. The major aim of King Hoods Trucking is to provide
Interstate transportation of general freight, provide Secure, prompt, trustworthy

continued conveyance of dependable service to our clients which will lead to
exclusive long-term contracts and referrals.
At King Hoods Trucking, we understand that, all over the world, there is an ever-
increasing need to move items from one place to another, either through short
distances or over long distances. The continuous increase of e-commerce
companies, agricultural companies, factories, and other companies worldwide has
also contributed to the influx of many transportation companies.
In addition, transporting goods by truck is still the most widely used mode of
transport in the United states because it is safe, reliable, and cost-effective. Also,
truck transportation remains the most appropriate solution for short-distance and
direct routes. The loading and unloading of goods/cargo are much more easily
undertaken compared to maritime or railway transportation; this minimizes
handling time and lets goods reach their delivery location faster. Since truck
transportation effectively remains the most direct solution for transporting goods
and cargo, it is also one of the fastest solutions. In other words, cargo is moved
directly from point A to point B without requiring any change in transportation
methods, as it cannot be the case with other methods.
8 8
With this understanding that there is a growing demand for transportation
companies, especially truck companies in the United States, it is without a doubt
that any company that can meet this demand will generate tremendous income. For

3.0 MARKET RESEARCH ANALYSIS
The trucking industry refers to the use of road transportation, such as semi-trailers
and light trucks, to move goods across overland routes. Most commonly goods are
transported from manufacturing plants to retail distribution centers, but there are
other common uses such as the transportation of building materials and waste in
the construction industry. Trucking is responsible for most of the overland freight
movement in the United States, with the market being worth $700 billion in 2017
and 796.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2018. At that time, there were over 928,000 truck
drivers employed in the U.S., which is less than the industry requires. Owing to
this driver shortage, driver costs are the biggest challenge faced by the industry.

Broadly speaking, the U.S. trucking industry can be divided into three main
sectors: full truckload (FTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), and couriers.
FTL carriers are those who haul large amounts of homogenous cargo, generally
enough to fill an entire semi-trailer or container. These trucks typically haul
deliveries of up to 50,000 pounds. According to Plunkett Research, an industry
analytical research company, the FTL sector currently generates more than $116
billion in revenue and is projected to reach more than $167 billion by 2025.
Fleets in the FTL sector can be either privately owned, for example by a large
manufacturer who needs to distribute their goods, or available on a for-hire basis.
For-hire carriers generally offer additional logistics and transportation services,
such as intermodal transport options. The largest U.S. FTL carrier is J.B. Hunt,
who in 2018 reported a total operating revenue across all operating segments of
over eight billion U.S. dollars. Other prominent FTL carriers are Schneider
National and Knight-Swift, who reported over 4.5 billion U.S. dollars and five
billion U.S. dollars in revenue for 2018 respectively.
LESS-THAN-TRUCKLOAD (LTL)
Conversely, LTL carriers transport shipments that are larger than parcels, but not
large enough to fill a full trailer. Many LTL carriers will transport multiple
shipments simultaneously to optimize their operations. The largest LTL carrier is
FedEx Freight, who in 2018 reported 7.3 billion U.S. dollars in revenue from LTL
21 21
shipments. Following FedEx, the next largest carriers are Old Dominion, XPO
Logistics and YRC Freight, all of which generated somewhere between three and
four billion U.S. dollars in revenue in that year from LTL shipments.
CONFIDENTIAL - DO NOT DISSEMINATE. This business plan contains confidential, trade-secret information and is shared only with the understanding that you will
not share its contents or ideas with third parties without the express written consent of the plan author.
Finally, the courier sector is comprised of carriers of non-palletized and light
goods, such parcels. Three main companies dominate this sector in the United
States: the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx and UPS. Revenues in this sector appear
higher than for FLT and LTL: FedEx Express reported just over 29 billion U.S.
dollars in revenue from package delivery for their 2019 fiscal year, while UPS
reported close to 43.6 billion U.S. dollars in revenue from domestic package
delivery in 2018. However, not all this revenue can be directly attributed to the
courier sector of the trucking industry.

FREIGHT TRUCKING MARKET
Over the past few years, the freight trucking market has experienced waves of
changes in terms of how freight trucks are operated, integration of cutting-edge
technologies, and advancements in truck designs, among others. The production of
freight trucks continues to grow across the world due to logistic requirements from
an array of end-use industries, including food & beverages, oil & gas, energy &
mining, chemicals, and more. Several factors are expected to influence the
expansion of the freight trucking market such as a surge in automation, exponential
growth of the e-Commerce sector, and focus on industrialization by governments
across the Asia Pacific, and the advent of next-generation technologies, including
25 25
order entry systems, warehouse management systems, transportation management
systems, and global positioning systems.

The significant growth of the various industries around the world coupled with the
integration of new technologies in freight trucks is expected to propel the freight
trucking marketing during the forecast period. While supply chains across the
world predominantly rely on freight trucking, the demand for freight trucking is
anticipated to grow at a consistent pace in the coming years. However, as air
transportation continues to offer greater value to end users, in the long run, freight
trucking companies are expected to find new ways to retain customers and provide
value. At the back of these factors, the global freight trucking market is expected to
attain a market value of ~US 4 Bn by the end of 2030.

to improve.

Self-driving trucks backed by advanced self-navigating systems are likely to
become mainstream during the latter half of the assessment period. Companies
operating in the current market landscape are expected to focus on leveraging the
benefits of novel technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and sensors.
For instance, the electric semi-truck manufactured by Tesla incorporates the
autopilot feature and is increasingly being used by different companies, such as
Loblaw, Asko, Pepsi, etc.

One of the major sectors to face the effects of the novel COVID-19 pandemic is
the transportation sector. The freight trucking market is expected to witness a
sluggish period amidst the looming COVID-19 pandemic, as governments across
the world continue to initiate preventive measures to combat casualties and spread
of the virus. Shareholders in the freight trucking market are expected to be heavily
impacted due to the ongoing pandemic. However, freight trucking companies
involved in the delivery of essential goods and services are projected to capitalize
on the opportunity and gain ground in the competitive market landscape. As the
COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt the supply chains of major industries
worldwide, market players involved in the freight trucking market are likely to
seek new solutions to address these challenges.
ANALYSTS’ VIEWPOINT
The global freight trucking market is expected to grow at a moderate CAGR of
~5% during the forecast period. The market growth can be primarily attributed to a
host of factors, including a surge in demand from end-use industries, technological
advancements, development of fuel-efficient trucks, and economical freight
alternative. Companies operating in the current market landscape should focus on
expanding their client base by tapping into opportunities in different industries,
focus on minimizing costs, and offer impactful logistic solutions to their customers
to gain an edge.

From the above analysis, it is projected that the business will have a total revenue of $150,000 in
the first year of business activities. Every business always aspires to increase its sales. With the
marketing strategy adopted, it is assumed that this will yield an increase in the subsequent years
of business operations, thereby, causing the revenue for each year to increase too.
The volume of revenue influences the profit that will be made during the year, therefore revenue
generated in the course of running the business results in an increase in profit made by the
business after taking care of all expenses.
