ASSESSMENT I

1.No, status offenses is not illegal in adults simply because status offenses are unlawful acts
that can only committed by minors and can be adjudicated only by a juvenile court, it’s mostly
misbehaviors or misdemeanour that can be called out by higher officials if proven to be an
offense. Example of status offense is drinking alcohol of a child/minor, it will not be illegal in
adult because he/she is already in the right age to do so. And of course, adult can already
distinguish their actions whether it is wrong or right and they can decide for themselves while
minors are still in need of guidance from adults especially from their parents.
2.Yes, juvenile justice system works here in the Philippines in accordance to the law, in fact the
congress had already passed a bill called Republic Act No. 9344 or the “Juvenile Justice and
Welfare Act” which deals with children or minors who had committed unlawful activities. In this
bill, it provides proceedings that appropriate for children, programs and services, as well as
rehabilitation that will ensure their safety and welfare. Aside from that bill, once a minor caught
in committing a crime, he/she will be turn over to the DSWD.
3.There is a big difference between Juvenile court and Adult court, in Juvenile court juvenile
offenders are treated leniently, sanctions are based on a rehabilitation model and do not any
sentencing objectives. In short any crime that committed by a juvenile will not be punished by
the juvenile court, while in the Adult court, their criminal proceedings are open to the public and
rules of criminal procedure are observed.
4.Juvenile crime is a big problem here in the Philippines because sometimes, juvenile or the
minors are being used to do crimes especially by syndicates that sometimes are involve drugs.
5.truancy, running away from home, drinking alcohol, curfew violations, misbehaviour,
aggressive behaviour, possession of alcohol/liquor.
ASSESSMENT II
1.The factors that causes juvenile delinquency are

2.Individual with mental health problems become delinquents because their personality are
being distorted and their ideas and perception of the world around them. They are having
conflicts with their own feelings and what the others think about them, sometimes they are also
being associated by other people that teaches them bad values and unlawful acts, and also
become the cause of their aggressiveness when being control by others.
3.The environmental factors that affects a child to be delinquent
ASSESSMENT III
1. The types of cases heard in juvenile courts are categories in two, the delinquency
offense/Delinquency cases, this involve a child entering the juvenile court system because
of criminal charges like robbery, murder, assault, or other felonies, and the status offenses
are cases involving a juvenile charged with an act that would not be criminal if committed by
an adult. Status offenses are sometimes termed "pre-delinquency" cases meaning the
juvenile is on the road to repeatedly breaking the law and being labeled a "juvenile
delinquent’’

2.I’am in favour of lowering the age of minority to 11 years old because

ASSESSSMENT IV
1.Socialization is the process through which children learn the ways of a particular society or
social group so that they can function within it. Socialization affects a juveniles behaviour it is
were an individual learns the attitudes, behaviors and social role that are appropriate for them
from already socialized people like the parents of the child and other family members, it can
also be their friends or classmates in school. It’s through socialization that a child developed
their values and beliefs, and with socialization they are able to distinguish what is right or wrong.
But also because of socialization, especially to their peer groups they are being exposed to
delinquents acts where in what their peer groups do, they will also do it, without fully
understanding that it’s against the law.
2.Family is consider as the primary contributory factors to delinquents because some family
failed to discipline their children and teach them to have self-control. It is the ineffective
childbearing that pushes children to be delinquents because their parents didn’t teach them the
values and beliefs or what are the acceptable acts in society, letting them do bad things without
disciplining the. Some families also transmit values that involves violence or criminality that the
children do too thinking that it’s alright. Sometimes also the children’s need are being ignored so
they are force to commit crime acts.
3.The school contribute to the delinquency problems because the teachers and other school
staffs failed to meet the students need in school like lack of activities that they can do in their
extra time. Policies are not also strictly implemented in other school especially in public and the
absence of proper motivation of school mentors to those student who have failure in their class,
so the student are often find themselves getting involve or committing delinquents acts inside
and outside the school.
4.Juvenile turns delinquent activities of their peers because of the pressure from the group,
because the juvenile wanting an acceptance from his/her group and to feel importance from
them, their peers empower their feeing and they will be easily influence in doing delinquent
activities. They are being dictated by their peers in doing things that they are not used to do that
results minor and even major forms of deviance and delinquency just so they wont be left out
from their group.
5.The behaviour of the youth is influenced by the outside environment meant in a way in which
the child gets most of his influence from his/her environment. A child is prone to delinquency if
he/she is accompanied by a group that are involves in delinquency. In terms of media, the
values that are being taught in the media, the images of adult social roles they see and also the
advertising the media showing on the television cause an impact to their personality and
behaviour. Examples are the violent comic cartoons like ‘’the tom and jerry show’’, it is easily
imitated by the child and may results to their violent behaviour. In religion, it is where the
molding up of child’s character starts from his spiritually brought by the teachings of his/her
church. Religion serves as their guide in their moral preferences as they grow up. If the child
fear God, deviant behaviour will be flourished easily.
