GUIDE QUESTIONS:

 What was the significance of the story about the boy from Korea?
Answer: He was making a dough with a little progress with his speaking English. And also,
he speak in English but only the simple phrases.

 What problems did he encounter in learning English?

Answer: Joe’s parents try to read some English Books but he doesn’t work; watching English
channels on TV, it doesn’t work; and even Korean either.

 What was the reason for this? Which theory and theorist was used to explain the
problem?
Answer: Because the different languages that we learn we learn don’t exist in isolated parts
of the brain. Because, Scientists believes that the different languages are increasingly
understand that actually there is no single language component in the brain at all to store and
produce language. And that theory is what we called, the LAD theory.

 How is Jim Cummins analogy connected to the LAD theory of Chomsky?

Answer: As you can see that he connected to the Common Underlying Proficiency and this is
very means that if we learn a concept in one language, we don’t have to relearn that concept
again when we speak another language; we just need to learn the language bribe if you learn
how to do it.

 Why is it important to strengthen the mother tongue in learning a second language?

Answer: Because it is very important to strengthen mother tongue to the students in learning
a second language by providing some reading materials to achieve students in order to
understand with a little help of these 3r’s. And also, their learning skills that it would apply
for them to help their parents to teach them easily.

 What is the significance of this theory to our situation in the Philippines?

Answer: the significance of LAD theory during this pandemic in our country is even though
students who are having trouble reading and writing skills for them to teach. So, I may
suggest that we provide some handouts and reading materials especially reviewer for their
preparation for exam. This will be the best solution for the students and also to their parents
to provide some reading materials, reviewers and handouts for their guidelines as they
achieve their reading, writing, listening and analytical skills in order to help them and don’t
forget the 3r’s: Read, Review and Relax.

 What was the speaker’s suggestion in strengthening the mother tongue?

Answer: the suggestion for the speaker to strengthening the mother tongue to the students is
to understand the words by reading and writing skills. Because it’s the only solution for the
students. And, I agree of what the speaker said that these 3r’s would definitely help the
students and also for their parents as well so that they will be able to understand of their
lesson well.

 What was the number one hindrance to learning something and what can we do about it?
Answer: The number one hindrance to learn something is we have 3R’S: Review, Read and
Relax. The key to success to support the content of the child’s learning. As future teachers, I
have to use these 3 R’s to apply for the students in order to have their reading, writing,
analytical and most of all, listening skills. These students will improve more on these skills to
provide some enhancing in reading comprehension, spelling and vocabulary words. I
remember from the movie, “Taare Zameen Par”, the Indian movie, it talks about the student
who has a mental disorder called; “dyslexia” meaning difficulty in reading and writing skills
but more on interest things such as painting, etc. The English teacher was really frustrated to
tell the student to read it properly and speak in English and that’s why his classmates are
laughing at him because of his poor academic performance. In the end, the teacher would
help him by developing his skills such as reading, writing, analytical, and listening skills.
And that’s why that student got high grades because of his teacher helped him. This is the
example of LAD theory.
