1. How many 1/16 are there in 2 5/8?

SOLUTION: y x 1/16= 2 5/8
2 5/8= 21/8
y x 1/16= 21/8
y= 21/8 / 1/16
y= 21/8 x 16/1
y= 336/8
y= 42
Answer: 42

2. A blue neon light blinks every 4 seconds. A red one blinks every 5 seconds while the
green one blinks every 6 seconds. How many times will they blink together in half an
hour?
SOLUTION: (4/60) x + (5/60)x + (6/60)x = 30
(1/4)x = 30
X= 30 / ¼
X= 120

LABLELED ANSWER: The light blinks 120 times in 30 minutes or half an hour.

3. Which of the following is divisible by 3 but not by 9?

ANSWER: 40, 206
EXPLANATION: Is 40, 206 divisible by 3?
SOLUTION: 4+0+2+0+6= 12; therefore, 12 is divisible by 3.
Is 40,206 divisible by 9?
SOLUTION: 4+0+2+0+6= 12; therefore, 12 is not divisible by 9.
4. The distance between two towns on a given map is 2 ¾ cm. If ½ cm represents 6 km,
what is the distance between the two towns?
ANSWER: 33km.
SOLUTION: 2 ¾ cm= 2.75
½ = 0.50
2.75 / 0.50= 5.5
5.5 x 6km= 33km.

5. Margo paid P 400 for a blouse. If the blouse was sold at 20% discount, what was original
price?
SOLUTION: Price after discount = 100- 20= 80%
Price after discount= 400 Pesos
80%= 400 pesos
1%= 400/ 80= 5 pesos
100%= 50 x 100= 500 pesos.

6. In a sequence of starts and stops, an elevator travels from the first floor to the fifth floor
and then to the second floor. From there, the elevator travels to the fourth floor and then
to the third floor. If the floors are 4 meters apart, how far has the elevator traveled?
SOLUTION:
Question said that every floor has 4m apart. We have 5 floors then we have 16m all.
1st floor- 5th floor = 16m
5th floor- 2nd floor= 12m
2nd floor- 3rd floor= 8m
4th floor- 3rd floor= 4m
Then, 16+ 12+ 8+ 4= 40m.

7. Which of the following has the greatest value?

A. 0.351
B. 35/100
C. 3/10
D. 3/9
ANSWER:

8. Which of the following numbers is greater than -3/2?

A. -4/3
B. -3
C. -7/4
D. -2
ANSWER:

9. Simplify: 1/3 + 2/5 – 2/6.

ANSWER: 2/5.
SOLUTION:
 Least Common Multiple of 3 and 5 is 15. Convert 1/3 and 2/5 to fractions with
denominator 15.
5/15 + 6/15 – 2/6
 Since 5/15 and 6/15 have the same denominator, add them by adding their numerators.
5+ 6/15 – 2/6
 Add 5 and 6 to get 11.
11/15 – 2/6

 Reduce the fraction 2/6 to lowest terms by extracting and canceling out 2.
11/15 – 1/3
 Least Common Multiple of 15 and 3 is 15. Convert 11/15 and 1/3 to fractions with
denominator 15.
11/15 – 5/15
 Since 11/15 and 5/15 have the same denominator, subtract them by subtracting their
numerators.
11-5/15
 Subtract 5 from 11 to get 6.
6/15
 Reduce the fraction 6/15 to lowest terms by extracting and cancelling out 3.
6/15= 2/5
 Therefore, 2/5= 0.4
