III. PROCEDURES

Teacher’s Activity Learners Activity

A. Preliminaries
Good morning everyone. Good morning ma’am.

Before we start, Marian please lead a prayer. Our Father in Heaven…Amen.

Class, please remain standing. To boost our day let’s Dinhi malipayon, didto malipayon, kitang tanan
all participate in an action song lead by Mariz. mal
ipayon…… tuyok gamay!

Okay class, before you take your seats look around,

pick-up some pieces of paper and arrange your chair
properly.

You may now take your seats and observe social

distancing. Thank you, ma’am.

Class monitor, is anyone absent today?

No one is absent ma’am.
Okay, very good.

Now class, what should you do if the class starts?

must raise your hand if you want to answer. And
always be polite to your classmates and teacher.
Yes ma’am.
Am I understood class?
Yes ma’am
Who can still remember our topic yesterday?
Our topic yesterday was about kinds of weather.
Very good.
So, what are the kinds of weather? The kinds of weather are cloudy, rainy, windy
and sunny.
Very good.
Anyone can repeat his/her answer The kinds of weather are cloudy, rainy, windy
and sunny.
So, what is our weather for today?
Our weather for today is cloudy day.
Okay, very good!
Let us give 5 wow claps for everyone. (the learner should clap 5x then wow!)

B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation
Class, try to look at your shoes or your slipper. What
do see? Dirt, ma’am.

Look around, what can you see outside?

Grasses, vegetables and flowers.
In your own idea class, what do we call the surface
where plants grow?
Soil, ma’am.
Very good! Plants grow in soil. And that dirt also in
your shoes we call that soil.

Soil is the uppermost surface of the Earth.

It is made up of small pieces of rocks, decayed plants
and animals.

2. Presentation
Did you know class that there are different types of
soil?

I have here an example of different types of soil.

Now, we’re going to have a group activity. But before

that, to make our activities fun, let’s have a point
system. Here is the rubric for the point system.

WORKING WITH A GROUP RATING

RUBRICS EXCELLENT VERY GOOD GOOD
5 4 3

Stayed on task
Shares ideas
Followed classroom rules
Took roles seriously

Are we all clear with rubrics, class?

Yes, ma’am.
Very good!

Now to start the activity we need to follow some

rules. What are the rules that we need to follow? 1. Understand carefully the instruction.
Everybody read. 2. Always help the teammates in doing
group works.
3. Do not roam around and stay on the
group.
4. Be careful in handling the materials.
5. Wash hands properly after the activity.
Am I understood class?
Yes, ma’am!
Now, let us identify the characteristics of different
types of soil.
Instructions:
1. Write your observation on the given chart
based on guide questions.
2. Get a small amount of every different types
of soil. Rub and press it with your fingers, feel
the texture of each type of soil.
3. Pour a small amount of water in every sample
of soil, how was the water absorb?
4. Observe the color of every soil example.
5. Tap your work on the board when you
finished.
I will give you 5 minutes to do your tasks.
Are you ready class?

Timer start now! Yes, we are.

TYPES OF SOIL
Soil Soi Soil Soil

How was the texture?
(rough, fine, very fine)
Does it hold water well?
(not hold, hold better, hold
strongly, hold right)
What did you observe to the
color?
(grey, brown, red orange,
black)
Time’s up!
Now, everybody in a group go in front and explain
your work based on the guide question.
The learners will discuss their observation.
Very good, class!

3. Discussion

There are four different types of soil; sand, silt, clay

and loam.

Class, who among you experienced swimming in the

beach?
How did you observe the soil in the seashore?
We usually find sandy soil near the beach. Sand is
made up of small pieces of rocks, so water passes
through it easily. It has the biggest particles among
the four types of soil that’s why its texture is rough.
Its common color is white or grey.

What is sand soil made up?

The sand soil is made up of small pieces of
How about its texture? rocks.
Does it hold water? Its texture is rough.
How about the color? No, the water passes through it easily.
Its color is white or grey.
Okay, very good!

But sand is not good for growing plants because the

water easily passes through the particles.
Did you understand? Yes, ma’am.

Silt is another type of soil. Silt is made up of fine

particles, so its texture is fine. If you were to hold a
handful of dry silt in your hand it would feel almost
like flour. It will hold water better than sand.
The common color of silt that we usually observe is
brown.
What is silt soil made up?
The silt soil is made up of small pieces of fine
How about its texture? particles.
Does it hold water? Its texture is fine.
How about the color? It will hold water better than sand.
Its color is brown.

Have you seen like this class?

What are these things made of?
These are made of clay.
Clay is made up from very fine particles of rocks, so its
texture is very fine. It will hold water strongly that is
why it will become sticky when wet. It is also not
good for plants because it is packed together when
wet and very hard when it dries. No room for air and
water movement. Its common color is red orange.

What is clay soil made up?

How about its texture? The clay soil is made up of very fine particles.
Does it hold water? Its texture is fine.
How about the color? It will hold water strongly.
Its color is red orange.
Who among you have planted “gabi-gabi” in the
flower pot?
Loam soil is the best soil for plants. It is a fertile soil
that makes the plant grow healthy. It is made up of
decayed plants and can easily absorbs minerals. Its
texture is varied. It holds just right amount of water
that plants need. Its common color is black or dark
brown.

What is loam soil made up?

How about its texture? It is made up of decayed plants.
Does it hold water? Its texture is varied.
How about the color? Holds just right amount of water.
What else can you say about loam soil? Its color is black or dark brown.
Loam soil is good for plants.
Very good!

C. Culminating Activity

1. Abstraction

What are the different types of soil?

The different types of soil are sand, silt, clay and
Very good! loam.

Now class look at this chart we did during our

discussion lately. I will give you 1 minute to observe
again the sampled soil, your chart compared to this
chart.
TYPES OF SOIL

Times up!
Now class, which soil example is the is the sand?
How about the silt? Soil 1
Which sample is the clay? Soil 2
And lastly which one is the loam? Soil 3
Soil 4
Okay very good!
Now a deafening applause for everyone.
(learners should clap their hands)
2. Application

Game activity
Who wants a game?

Now, we will have game activity and everybody must

participate.
What you are going to do is to get from the word
chart the best answer into the statement/question
that I will read for you. In every correct answer, there
is a corresponding star. The more star is the winner.

WORD CHART

SOIL LOAM SAND

Questions:
1. It is the upper surface of the earth where
plants grow.
2. It is the best type of soil for plants.
3. Which type of soil that is good for ceramic or
making jars?
4. The particles of this soil are bigger than clay
but smaller than sand.
5. Which type of soil has the biggest particles?

D. Assessment

From column A, find and connect its characteristics to

column B

1. Soil a. The water easily passes

through its particles.
2. Silt b. most fertile soil
3. Clay c. composed of decayed plants
and animals
4. Sand d. it has very fine texture

5. Loam e. it has fine texture

Are you done?

Yes, ma’am!
Okay, pass your paper in front without standing.
Now who wants to answer #1, #2, #3, #4, #5.
Okay very good!

E. Assignment

Now get your assignment notebook and copy your

homework.

How important is the soil in our daily living? At least 3
