V. THEORETICAL REVIEW : Reliability Test
Reliability is a translation of the word
reliability which has the origin of the words rely and
ability. Measurements that have high reliability are
referred to as reliable measurements. Reliability has
various other meanings such as trust, exemplary,
constancy, stability, consistency and so on, but the
main idea contained in the concept of reliability is the
extent to which a measurement result can be trusted.
While the questionnaire is said to be reliable if the
respondents' answers to the questions are consistent or
stable from time to time. Reliability test is used to
determine the consistency of the measuring
instrument, whether the measuring instrument used is
reliable and remains consistent if the measurement is
repeated. In the SPSS program the method that is
often used for reliability testing is Cronbach's Alpha
method. With the following formula: (Muhid, 2019)
The test was carried out at a significance level
a of 0.05. The instrument can be said to be reliable if
the value of Cronbach's Alpha is greater than r table.
However, there is also another theory which states that
if the Cronbach's Alpha value must be greater than
0.60 then it can be ascertained that the instrument is
reliable. (Pratisto, 2014)
VI. PROCEDURE :

1. Open the SPSS software and Input your data

2. From the main menu select Analyze, and then

select the scale submenu, then Select Reliability
Analysis.
3. Then a new box appears, from the “Reliability
Analysis" dialog box, enter all variables into the
Items box. In the “Model” section, select Alpha.

4. Select Statistics and click Scale If Item Deleted in

Descriptives For
5. Click OK and the output will be appear

VII. DISCUSSION : A. INPUT

a. Data View

Data View is a tab sheet that displays actual data

values or definedvalue labels. In this tab sheet, you
enter data into SPSS. Above itthere are menus such
as File, Edit, View, Windows, and Help aswell as
general menus in other under Windowsapplications.
b. Variable View

Variable View is a tab sheet that displays ametadata

dictionarywhere each row represents a variable and
shows the variable name,data type (eg numeric,
string, date), print width, and various
othercharacteristics.

B. MANUAL CALCULATION
1. Hypothesis.
H0 : The instrument used is reliable
H1 : The instrument used is not reliable

2. Table of Data

3. Calculate the value of the variance of each

4. Calculating total value of the variance of the

questions
2
∑ 𝜎𝑏 2 = 𝜎1 2 + 𝜎2 2 + 𝜎3 2 + 𝜎4 2 + 𝜎5

∑ 𝜎𝑏 2 = 1,715 + 0,915 + 1,73 + 0,862

+ 1,982

∑ 𝝈𝒃 𝟐 = 𝟕, 𝟐𝟎𝟒

5. Calculating the total variance value

(∑ 𝑋)2
∑ 𝑋2 −
𝑛
𝜎𝑇 2 =
𝑛
(241)2
4175 − 15
𝜎𝑇 2 =
15
62625 − 58081
𝜎𝑇 2 =
225
4544
𝜎𝑇 2 =
225
𝝈𝑻 𝟐 = 𝟐𝟎, 𝟏𝟗𝟓

6. Calculating the instrument reliability value

𝑘 ∑ 𝜎𝑏 2
𝑟11 = [ ] [1 − ]
𝑘−1 𝜎𝑇 2
5 7,204
𝑟11 = [ ] [1 − ]
5−1 20,195

4 10095
5 6493
𝑟11 = [ ] [ ]
4 10095
5 6493
𝑟11 = [ ] [ ]
4 10095
1 6493
𝑟11 = [ ] [ ]
4 2019
6493
𝑟11 =
8076
𝒓𝟏𝟏 = 𝟎, 𝟖𝟎𝟒

7. Calculating r tabel
𝑑𝑓 = 𝑁 − 2
𝑑𝑓 = 15 − 2
𝑑𝑓 = 13
𝛼 = 0,05
𝑟 𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑒𝑙 = (𝑑𝑓 , 𝛼) = 0,5140
8. Decision
If𝑟11 > 𝑟 𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑒𝑙 = 𝐻0 𝑎𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑑
If𝑟11 < 𝑟 𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑒𝑙 = 𝐻0 𝑟𝑒𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑
9. Conclusion
We can see that 𝑟11 > 𝑟 𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑒𝑙 (0,804 >
0,5140). That meansH0 i𝑠accepted and H1is
rejected. And the conclusion is the instrument
used is reliable.
VIII. CONCLUSION : 1. Reliability test is the extent to which they are
consistent across different occasions of testing,
different editions of the test, or different raters
scoring the test taker's responses.
2. Reliability is used to determine the consistency of a
test across time.
3. The purpose of reliability test is to estimate errors
in measurement and to suggest ways of improving
tests so that errors are minimized.
4. Between 0.8 and 0.7: acceptable reliability. Between
0.7 and 0.6: questionable reliability. Between 0.6
and 0.5: poor reliability. Less than 0.5:
unacceptable reliability.
5. To run reliability test in SPSS, first open the program
and enter your data. And From the top menu, click
Analyze, then Scale, and then Reliability Analysis.
Transfer variables into the Items, and leave the
model set as Alpha. In the dialog box, click
Statistics. In the box description, select Scale if
item deleted. Click Continue and then OK to
generate the output.
