When planning a wedding one of the most important things is to follow the theme the bride and
groom have set. You would first want to establish the goal and timeline of the event. You will
especially want to know what type of events are coming up in that week because that could be a
deciding factor for cost and space. Next, you would want to know what type of budget the couple
has. There could be a tight budget that includes a lot of DIY projects or the budget on the higher
end where a lot of materials can be ordered and delivered as is. Along with the décor budget you
would want to know if you could afford a band versus a DJ, finger foods or classic dinner, take
home trinkets, and bartenders. You would also want to leave a small percentage for additional
expenses that may come up. An example of this could be buying the cups, napkins and chaser
drinks for the bartender. Next you must find your venue. Would it be traditional wedding
happening in a church or will this call for a simple backyard wedding? You must also consider if
guest are local or distant. This could have an additional cost for hotel and travel to the venue.
The next step would be to choose how you want to “market your event”. This could be sending
invitation cards in the mail, having e-invites, or simply calling and extending an invitation. Next,
you will want to know if your event needs outside vendors. This could be for different types of
food, music, and entertainment. All these things could come with the venue at a small extra cost
or you may have to outsource if these things are not provided. Lastly, you would want to follow
up about your event. You never want to extend an invitation to people far ahead and never
mention the event again, people can easily forget. At least two months before the event a
reminder email or short letter can go out to the attendees. Aside from planning the actual event, it
is a good idea to budget for a set up and take down crew for before and after the event. This will
make the day easier for everyone involved.
