Self-reflect:

Let us find out how much we have learned from the lesson. You may go back to your
readings and activities (documentary video, “Iskul Ko, No. 1”) which you have done
before. Answer the questions exhaustively.

1. How much did you know about the topic before you started?

Before I watched the video, I honestly didn't have that much knowledge of what

it was about. Although at first I thought the title looked and sounded familiar, as if I

had watched it before. I thought at first it looked boring and time consuming when I

learned that the whole video lasted almost an hour. All I know about this topic is that it

is a documentary shown on GMA 7 by Sandra Aguinaldo and that it's all about the

school life of the poverty-stricken people in some provinces. I've never put any

thoughts about it at first, so I don't really have a deeper knowledge and understanding

about this video.

2. Now that you have watched the video presentation and conducted research about
the topic, what are your first thoughts about this? Are they mostly positive or
negative? If positive, what comes to your mind specifically? Negative?

I watched the video twice because it is very informative and at the same time

heart-warming. After I've watched the video, I am very shocked to know that they got

second place in NAT in 2006 and in 2007 they got first place. Because considering that

they're school is lacking in many things, they live in a mountainous place and they have

to walk many hours just to get to school. And by just watching the video you can see

how hard it is to go to school and to still study in house because some of them don't

have electricity and need to walk long hours with only slippers. Honestly, if it was me I

would have long given up, I don't have the patience to walk in a slippery and muddy

way just to go to school, and I don't have the patience to read lectures in a dark place
and only use a candle or a gasera. And aside from all of this, I also admire the

dedication and passion of Teacher Leah to teach and guide her students. I remember

Mildred saying that Teacher Leah advised them to work as a maid to earn money for

them to continue their studies. And I'm also shocked to see how the other teachers

adapt and use the strategy on how Teacher Leah teaches her students. I also saw how

the students help each other when they are having a hard time in some lessons and how

the other students teach young children in their place without a fee. All in all, I feel a

negative feeling because despite them working hard and helping each other to better

their future, a lot of them still stopped studying once they finished Elementary because

of money. Because for them studying is a luxury and money is something to buy food

only for them. I feel sad about this. I can see from the video how much they wanted to

study and how hard-working and smart they are, but they don't have a choice because

the money they have is not enough for them to continue their studies. How great would

it be if our government could support these hard-working, dedicated and deserving

students?

3. What is the most important thing you learned personally?

The most important lesson I've learned personally in this video is now I have

noticed how much I have always take for granted the things I have now and how much

I complain on small things, like I don't have a new phone, new clothes, shoes and how

my laptop is broken and so many small things despite my age I am still immature and

always complain about the hardships I experience and by watching this video I have

learned that my so called hardships are not even comparable with the students in

Sindangan Elementary School. Now, I have learned to appreciate and be thankful for

what I have, and to also appreciate that I can still continue studying despite me not

being that smart. I've learned that for some people having a shoes and being able to

study is so important as if their life depend on it while me, I always assume that this
things are not going to be gone and when it comes to studying I'm not being serious

and not putting my 100% best but now, I know how wrong I am and now I will change

myself to be more deserving and not to be ashamed and embarrassed.

4. How will you use what you have learned in the future?

Based on the lessons I have learned, in the future, I will be more careful and

always think about others. I will not be muddleheaded, and I will appreciate things

more in and the knowledge and skills that I will be learning in school I will apply to it

in the future. And in the future, if I ever experience problems, I will not give up because

I will always remember the hardships the students of Sindangan experienced in life, so,

I will do my best, and work hard. I will use the lessons I've learned to educate my

children and my future students, to appreciate the little blessings we have and

experiences we have and to not take for granted the little things we have. And I will

teach them to be more thankful and praise God that they don't need to experience, to

walk, to go to school, or to read in dark places. And, I also like to use the strategy of

Teacher Leah in teaching in the future.
