LETTER OF TRANSMITTAL
Dear Sir,
With due respect, it is my pleasure to present this LFE report on the study conducted during
2019 in BLC, Mymensingh organized by Independent University, Bangladesh.
I was survey in kandapara . I have tried to learn about the demography, geography, economy
and agriculture, Education, health and sanitation, and rural market analysis of the village
through questionnaire survey and observation. Also visited 3 paras to know about this village.
It was a tough task to communicate with rural people but I have enjoyed LFE with my group
member and other students. I believe that I learn many things practically through this course.
I hope that the enclosed information will be helpful to get a clear idea about kandapara.
I therefore, look forward to you that my report will be able to achieve your approval. If you
need any assistance for further clarification of the report, we will be pleased to meet any
queries.
Sincerely,

Introduction:
“LFE bridges the gap between our historical knowledge and the present through an empirical
study of the roots of our culture”.
We the people have a nature to look forward. Every day we are getting detached from our natural
beauty to technological advancement. But we always forget that out true origin lies in the rural
beauty. “So sometimes we have to stop and smell the roses”. Our University “Independent
University, Bangladesh” is the only university that arranges a unique program, “Life infield
Experience (LFE)”. We the young generation are the backbone of the country and we must know
how the great majority of the people live. A large portion of our country is directly and indirectly
related with the villagers. But it is also true that, the life blood of our country (Villagers) is afflicted
with Poverty, Malnutrition, Illiteracy and unconscious about health. LFE-Live-In Field Experience
is one of the distinctive courses offered by IUB to its students. The course is designed to impress
upon young minds the socio-economic realities of the rural Bangladesh as the majority portion of
our population live in the village in the rural areas.
Through this course, we have an opportunity to get direct encounter with rural people on whom the
country stands. Most of the young generation has little or no idea about gram Bangla, after doing
this LFE program, we get to know how the majority of the people live. We should always bear in
mind that the problem we face and observe in the urban areas does not reflect the situation of the
whole country. It is the rural areas which reflect the scenario of the whole country. LFE provides us
the chance to overcome and minimize the gap of understanding and make familiar with the rural
areas. We are really grateful to the authority of IUB for providing us the prospect to get this
authentic experience.

Our journey was start from Brac Learning Center (BLC). The village was selected by our
honorable faculty member where every group was placed in different Para of that village for
carrying out survey work. Our course instructor along with the help of BLC authority
selected the villages. We were assigned to Kandapara. The village is on the east south side of
BLC. It was approximately one and half km away from BLC and takes 20 minutes to reach.
The village is situated left beside the Shombugong road.

Value Chain:
Value chain is when a product are moving from producer to whole seller and whole seller
take to somewhere else and sell it to a retailers and from the retailer finally the produce
reaches to the final consumer. Form the producer to the final consumers the products changes
it value like all the sellers they keep some profits and then the transportation cost are added.
That’s why the price of the product changes according to place and product. Following steps
we will try to show in our report

Convenience Goods: Convenience goods are the goods which people buy in minimum shopping
efforts. We saw many convenience goods such as rice , soybean oil
Shopping Goods: Shopping goods are the goods which are not frequently bought by the
buyers. Village people don’t buy these products frequently as they are a bit expensive in
price. Products are: shampoo, beauty cream , coconut , detergent etc.
Specialty Goods: Some specialty goods which are expensive and the villagers have to put a
lot of shopping efforts to buy these products.
Unsought Goods: The products which are not bought usually by the consumers. At a shop of
the moddho para we saw a shop where they were selling sandalina soap.

Most of the female kandapara, married off below 18. Many female villagers are illiterate,
they don’t have much knowledge about health issues so got pregnant in the teenage. For this
thing they face many health issues, domestic violence. Because of early marriage they don’t
have knowledge of education so poverty occurred.

Women rights:
The status of women in Bangladesh is defined by struggle to massive improvement over this
year. After the liberation war have seen increased political empowerment for women, better job
prospects, improved education and the adoption of new laws to protect their rights.
In kandapara women, all most all the women are the victim of early marriage. We didn’t find any
mother who study at least class 5. We survey some household and got information.
Most of the village women can cast vote. But their education knowledge has no up to the mark.
Almost every woman married of when they were studying in class 2 or 3. And others never went
to school. They were going to village moktob for study The Holy Quran. But now a days its
changing, they send their both boy and girl for studying but the custom of child marriage is not
stop yet.

BRAC Sericulture:
We visited BRAC sericulture project. I saw their how to produce cotton by silk worm.
Production of silk occurs in four distinct steps: cultivating mulberry trees, rearing silkworms
in these trees, producing yarn from those silkworms and weaving the yarn to produce fabric.
This process is carried out by marginal farmers cultivating mulberry, cocoon rearers, yarn
reelers, and weavers. At BRAC Sericulture, it is mainly women who fill these positions,
although the enterprise struggles to maintain a consistent workforce because it tends to lose a
proportion of its workers to the seasonal fruit cultivation. It was grate experience.

Conclusion:
The overview of the fact that drew the conclusion was that the people of this specific village
Kandapara needs attention on issues mostly covers the fact that include health, education and
economic development.
There are many changes that will always bring positive and negative impacts that will work
for that development of the society.
The advantages of being able to observe the market of Shombugonj was to analyse mostly the
part of opportunities for future development on overall economic growth and condition of
Mymensingh.
The possible suggestions would be to decrease and control the overall the rate of over
population, increasing awareness regarding health issues of the rural people by possible
campaigns and seiners and improving the sanitation problem .
