    Similarities and Differences

    Between
    CNF and Nonfiction

    Yesterday, you learned about the similarities and


    differences between creative nonfiction and fiction. Today, we will move on to how it is
    the same and, at the same time, different from nonfiction.

    Nonfiction, as you know, is the opposite of


    fiction. These are written works that stick to the facts.
    The people, places, events, and everything it contains
    should be accurate and true. Most nonfiction works
    are written to inform, rather than to entertain.
    Examples of these are research papers, dissertation
    or thesis, how-to manuals, and news reports.

    Based on the above discussion, you can see


    how nonfiction is similar to creative nonfiction. But
    how are they different? Everything in creative
    nonfiction is factual or true but it is written in a way
    that engages the reader. It does not merely inform,
    but it entertains as well. It does this by creatively using the elements of fiction without
    changing any of the facts. It does not merely present or tell the facts, but shows them to
    the readers by showing them to the readers through the use of vivid descriptions or
    sensory images.
    The two excerpts below show the difference between nonfiction and creative
    nonfiction. Both present facts about quarantine during pandemic, but their
    writing styles are different.

    NONFICTION CREATIVE NONFICTION
