Read the scenario carefully.

Answer the questions and analyze with reference to Cycle of Leadership.

Scenario:
The Literal Party is considered the most powerful and influential party in the country. It’s stalwarts line
up boasts of a formidable combination of the most popular Senators and Congressmen as well as many Cabinet
Secretaries who altogether make up the tremendous clout of this political party.
As the next National Elections is scheduled to be held in 2022, the party is now in the thick of
preparations for the said electoral process as they get underway in determining the candidate who will be the
Standard Bearer of the party.
At the Party’s General Meeting, the members were at the first part of the activity - the dinner and
socialization.
The meeting proper is to start after the scheduled first part. As the socialization was in progress, two
Party members (Senator Bautista and Congressman Delgado) got into a high pitched conversation as both try to
assert their intention to be the Party’s Presidential candidate. Governors Fernandez and Manansala were there as
they try to mediate between the arguing personalities. Standing close by was Mayor Perez who witnessed the
incident and heard the entire conversation.
At this point, Senator Almonte (President of the Literal Party) stepped in to have a dialogue with the
now arguing candidates who were both getting more assertive. The President in a loud commanding voice told
them to stop. The arguing candidates sustained their arguments on being the standard bearer which all the more
precipitated the discussions. Someone suggested that a voting for all members be conducted so that the issue
may be settled once and for all.
There was a moment of silence in the hall… the President looked at everyone present. After a minute,
Congressman Perez (Party Secretary) stood up, went to the function room and prepared the voting
paraphernalia. As soon as the implements have been prepared, Mayor Salazar (Party PRO) invited all members
to the function
room.

There are two overlapping leadership situations here.

First Situation:
Question #1: Who is being led…??? all the party members present.

Question #2: Who is the leader…??? it was “Somebody”

Situation : The Party is trying to determine who will be the Standard Bearer and there was a tense situation
because there are two equally worthy candidates asserting their claim to the position.

Goal/Objective : The Party needs to choose who among the two contenders will be appointed as Standard
Bearer.

Communication: Mr/Ms Somebody suggested that a voting be conducted so that the issue may be settled once
and for all.

Action : There was a moment of silence... a clear indication that everyone silently agreed to the proposal. And
then the Party Secretary stood up and entered the function hall to prepare the voting paraphernalia... later, the
Party PRO invited everyone to proceed to the function hall.
Fruition : the Party announces the name of the Standard Bearer

Second Situation:
Question #1: Who is being led…??? all the party members present

Question #2: Who is the leader…??? the Party Secretary
