Answer the following questions and show your complete solution if necessary.

1. Is the relation {(0,0), (1,1), (2,4), (3,9), ... (n, n 2), ...} a function? Explain your
answer (maximum of three sentences).

 It was said, to determine the function of the set of ordered pairs the domains
should be in different numbers. As we can see the given domains are
arithmetically sequenced so there’s no way that the domains can be repeated, that
means that the given relation is a Function.

2. Which of the following diagrams represents a relation that is NOT a function?

Explain your answer (maximum of three sentences).

 In this diagram the relation or not the function is C, because it was stated that the
domains should not be repeated. As we can see in the given diagram in C the
domains 2 and 3 are paired twice with the range.

3. Can the graph of a circle be considered a function? Explain your answer

(maximum of three sentences).

 No, because it was stated to determine the function in a graph we should use the
method called ‘Vertical Line Test’ in which we draw a vertical line cutting
through the graph of a relation, and we observe the points of intersection. In this
case if we draw a vertical line in a graph of a circle, there’s so many points of
intersection.
4. Create the piecewise function for the scenario:

The cost of hiring catering services for a party is 150 pesos per head for
20 person or less, 130 pesos per head for 21 to 50 persons, and 110
pesos per head for 51 to 100 persons. For more than 100 people, the cost
is at 100 pesos per head. Represent the total cost as a piecewise function
of the number of attendees x of the party.

 Let x, be the number of attendees

C(x) = 150x; if 0¿x≤ 20
130x; if 21 ≤ x ≤ 50
110x; if 51 ≤x ≤100
100x; if x > 100

5. Create the piecewise function for the scenario:

A certain chocolate bar costs P35.00 per piece. However, if you buy more than
10 pieces, you will receive a price down of P32.00 per piece. Use a piecewise
function to represent the cost in terms of the number of chocolate bars bought.

 Let x, be the number of chocolate bars

P(x) = 35x; if 0 < x ≤10
32x; if x > 10
