INTRODUCTION
A survey on thirty (30) students was conducted to determine their scores in Mathematics,
English, Science, and their High School Average. The 30 respondents belong to 3 sections, Low,
Better, and Best. This paper aims to analyze if there is an association between Gender and their
scores in the 3 subjects as well as their High School Average. Moreover, the study also aims to
determine if there is an association between the Sections and the 3 subjects as well in their High
School Average.
The mean scores of the 3 subjects were computed. The mean score in Mathematics is
30.50, 28.60 in English and the mean score in Science is 20.5. The mean score of the high school

The scores of the students were classified into “High” and “Low”. If the score is above the mean
score, it is classified as “High” while if the score is below the mean score of each subject area, it
is classified as “Low”. To determine the association between gender and the scores, the
Table 2 shows that among the 14 male respondents, seven (7) got an average score above
the mean, and seven (7) got scores lower than the mean. Among the 16 female respondents,
eleven (11) scored high and only five (5) got low scores. This shows that eighteen (18) students
achieved high scores while twelve (12) got low scores in Mathematics. The chi-square test was
computed to find out if there is an association between gender and mean scores in mathematics.
The computed chi-square is 1.094 and the probability is 0.296. This shows that there is no
