Preparing Nursery Tools—tools are manual and hand operated
gadgets. Building Nursery Shed—is a place where plants are propagated and grown to a desired age. Nursery may supply plants for gardens, agriculture, for forestry and for conservation biology. Potting Soil—is a medium in which to grow plants, herbs, and vegetables in a pot or other durable container. Seed Sowing—sowing is a process of casting handfuls of seed over prepared ground or seedling tray. Perform Propagation—grafting is a way to produce plants form pieces of existing plants instead of seeds. Branches or buds are cut from one plant and placed on a related kind of plant. The branch or bud that is grafted is called the scion. The plant that accepts the graft is called the root stock.
CORE COMPETENCY 2: PLANT CROPS
Preparing the Land for Planting—soil testing is the analysis of a soil sample to determine nutrient content, composition and other characteristics such as the acidity or pH level. Mulching Activity—mulching is a process of covering the soil and make more favourable conditions for plant growth and development. Conducting Field Lay-Out—farm layout involves the location of the fields with respect to the farmstead and public highways, the size, shape, and number of fields, and the location of the hog-lots, feed yards, etc. Digging of Holes—transplanting is the technique of moving a plant from one location to another (i.e. seedling tray to plot area). Perform Seeding—direct seeding refers to farming system that fertilizer and plant directly into undisturbed soil in one field operation, or two separate operations or fertilizing and planting.
CORE COMPETENCY 3: CARE AND MAINTAIN CROPS
Applying Fertilizer—fertilizer adds nutrients and texture to soil
that needed to provide nutrients for trees, vegetables, herbs, shrubs, flowers, and etc. Whether it be basic organic or inorganic. Watering of Crops—watering of crops is the application of controlled amount of water to plants at needed intervals. It helps to grow agricultural crops, maintain landscapes and re-vegetate the disturbed soils in dry areas and during periods of less than average rainfall. Trellising—trellising plants is an old garden technique adopted by many farmers. It will prevent fruit rotting which results when fruits are hidden deep within the crop or sitting or the soil. Weeding—direct seeding refers to farming system that fertilize and plant directly into undisturbed soil in one field operation, or separate operation of fertilizing and planting.
CORE COMPETENCY 4: CARRY-OUT HARVEST AND POST-
HARVEST
Perform Harvesting Action—harvesting is the process of
gathering a ripe crop from the fields. On smaller farms with minimal mechanization, harvesting is the most labor-intensive activity of the growing season. On large mechanized farms, harvesting utilizes the most expensive and sophisticated farm machinery, such as the combine harvester. DOCUMENTATION
