MCM Youth E-nnovation Summit (MCM YES):

RESILIEMC Game Creation Contest to Beat the Pandemic

MCM Youth E-nnovation Summit (MCM YES) is an annual technology and development
competition for Senor High School and College in Mindanao, which advocates the expansion of
the technological landscape of the country at the same time it presents transformative and
sustainable solutions to worldly issues such as global health risks. This year, MCM YES is
conducting a competition gamifying COVID-19 to raise awareness and provide knowledge and
solutions on the relevant issue at hand. The MCM YES Game Creation Contest envisions to
promote active youth engagement by encouraging and supporting Senior High School and
College students to share their knowledge and creativity through game development based on
four components surrounding the risk management applicable to COVID-19: perception,
prevention, immunity, and mitigation.

Rules
Eligibility: In order to participate in the competition, the following conditions must be met:
1. Interested participant/s may join solo or form a group of up to five (5) students. The team
should obtain the permission of their school manifested through an authorized school
representative and preferably a faculty coach with a background in Information
Technology or other related programs.
2. Each participant in a team must be officially enrolled in the same school in Mindanao as
SHS students and/or College students.

Guidelines:
1. For the Programming Language, games may be written in any language such as
JavaScript and HTML5.
2. For the Game Genre may be any, but not limited to, one of the following:
a. RPG Action e. Interactive Fiction
b. Adventure f. Puzzle
c. Arcade g. Simulation
d. Graphical Educational Quiz

3. For Content, the game must contain elements that are based on the given theme. The
game must comprise of the following components and include at least one but not limited
to the listed areas under each component:
a. Perception - of or relating to how information regarding COVID-19 should be
perceived and understood. For example,
i. Watching News
ii. Myths
iii. Awareness of COVID-19 symptoms
iv. Swab test
b. Prevention - of or relating to guidelines/measures on how to prevent the
contraction of COVID-19. For example,
i. Importance of washing hands
ii. Other hygienic measures (e.g., alcohol)
iii. PPE (mask, face shield, etc.)
iv. Social distancing (2m)
v. Courteous coughing/sneezing
vi. Sanitizing surfaces
vii. Avoiding surface contacts
c. Immunity - of or relating to guidelines/measures on how to strengthen one’s
immune system during COVID-19. For example,
i. Collect food rich in nutrients: Zinc, Vitamin C, Antioxidant, Vitamin E,
and Vitamin D
ii. Exercise
iii. Vaccination
d. Mitigation - of or relating to guidelines/measures on how to mitigate (make less
severe) the COVID-19 transmission within the community. For example,
i. Quarantine
ii. Hospital admission
iii. Social responsibility and accountability
iv. Caring and sharing
4. For Originality, graphics, codes, and assets must be original. Available libraries and free
assets and resources from public domain, and those with acquired rights may be utilized.
Clones (e.g., Arcade: Flappy Bird) taken out of a tutorial is strictly not allowed and
subject to disqualification.
5. For Game Engine and Game Maker, entrants must provide the engines and makers of
their choice. The organizers will not provide for game engines and game makers. It is
highly encouraged to build from scratch.

Submissions for 1st Round: Applications must include team name, name of members, and school name/s
enclosed with scanned back-to-back copies of each participant’s school ID or any proof of
enrollment from the school s/he enrolled in for SY 2020-2021. The following should also be
accomplished and submitted on or before September 20, 2021 (Mon):
1. Concept Paper. The concept paper must include:
a. Game Name/Title
b. Proponents, Coach, and School
c. Game Description
i. Background
ii. Target Users
iii. Related games
d. Gameplay
i. Plot / Challenges
ii. Game rules
2. Video Presentation. The video presentation must not exceed five (5) minutes and must answer
the following questions:
a) What is the game all about?
b) Who are the target game player?
c) What is the game genre and the plot?
d) What is the gameplay or the flow of the game?

All 1st round submissions must be sent to the 2021 MCM YES Secretariat (email:
cbmiguel@mcm.edu.ph and dfaacosta@mcm.edu.ph and cc: mcmyes@mcm.edu.ph) with subject line,
“2021 MCM YES 1st Round” on or before September 20, 2021 (Mon).
Submissions for 2nd Round: From the list of all teams that submitted their concept paper and video
presentation, the Top 10 Teams will be selected, which will then proceed to the game development. The
following should be accomplished and submitted on or before October 29, 2021 (Fri):
1. Game Prototype Package: raw files of your prototype in a compressed format such as .zip or
.rar.
2. Video Presentation. The video presentation must not exceed fifteen (15) minutes and must
contain either of the following:
a) a gameplay video containing a run through of the game which could be animated, etc.
b) an explainer video in which the high-fidelity prototype created will be simulated in the
video while showing its features.

All 2nd round submissions must be sent to the 2021 MCM YES Secretariat (email:
cbmiguel@mcm.edu.ph and dfaacosta@mcm.edu.ph and cc: mcmyes@mcm.edu.ph) with
subject line, “2021 MCM YES 2nd Round” on or before October 29, 2021 (Fri).
