SUBJECT : GUIDELINES FOR THE MEGACHALLENGE ONLINE NATIONAL QUIZ 2021

Greetings!

We are pleased to announce the launching of the MEGACHALLENGE ONLINE NATIONAL QUIZ 2021
(MCONQ 2021) hosted by Megareview and Tutorial Center.

I. QUALIFICATIONS

1. The MCONQ 2021 is open to all Civil Engineering Students in good standing and are currently
enrolled in the BS-Civil Engineering program. Contestants must possess a school ID, and
certificate of registration (C.O.R).

II. GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. The entire event will be held ONLINE and participants will compete individually.

2. Each school is entitled to submit the names of their official representatives, a maximum of
Three (3) participants per school. No registration fee is required.

3. The Coach must be an active faculty member.

4. The Entire MCONQ 2021 will consist of Two (2) Events.


The Elimination Round which is a simultaneous written examination and the Grand Finals
which is a PM-Type Question & Answer Quiz.

5. Each school is strongly encouraged to support this activity i.e., providing stable internet and
adequate devices to their participant/s.

6. All questions shall be taken from the following subjects:

A. Mathematics, Surveying, and Transportation Engineering (MSTE)


i. Algebra / Trigonometry
ii. Geometry / Calculus
iii. Probability / Statistics
iv. Engineering Economy
v. Surveying / Transportation Engineering

B. Hydraulics and Geotechnical Engineering (HGE)


i. Soil Mechanics
ii. Foundation Engineering
iii. Fluid Mechanics
iv. Hydraulics

C. Structural Engineering (SE)
i. Mechanics
ii. Strength of Materials
iii. Theory of Structures
iv. Reinforced Concrete Design
v. Structural Steel Design
vi. Timber Design

7. All Coaches are required to fill-up the Registration Form below:

8. There will be Two (2) confirmation emails. One (1) will be sent a maximum of seven (7)
days after registration. Another one will be sent within a week prior to the event. The second
confirmation email will also contain the Program of Activities, and some additional guidelines.
Last day of confirmation of participation will be on October 15, 2021.

III. ELIMINATION ROUND

Date: October 23, 9:00 AM


Venue: Online

1. The ELIMINATION ROUND is an online written examination with questions taken from
the subjects Mathematics, Surveying & Transportation Engineering (MSTE), Hydraulics and
Geotechnical Engineering (HGE), and Structural Engineering (SE).

2. The ELIMINATION ROUND will be conducted via two (2) platforms: ZOOM and FACEBOOK.
Participants and coaches will be invited to join a private Facebook group dedicated only for the
event. Zoom links will be sent days before the day of the event.

3. A link to the Questionnaire will be sent on the day of the event to your provided email
address. All items have multiple choices (A, B, C, D, & E) and participants are simply asked to
choose the BEST answer for each item.

4. DEVICES. The school/coach shall provide each participant with the following device/s:

A. At Least One (1) Laptop AND


B. At Least One (1) Mobile Phone OR One (1) Tablet WITH WORKING CAMERA
C. Only calculators allowed by PRC

5. The participants will be distributed into groups as shown in the table below.

6. POINT-SYSTEM. During the Elimination Round, the following point-system shall be used:

A. Mathematics, Surveying and Transportation Engineering (MSTE)


Six (6) Easy Questions 3 points each
Five (5) Average Questions 5 points each
Four (4) Difficult Questions 8 points each

B. Hydraulics and Geotechnical Engineering (HGE)


Six (6) Easy Questions 3 points each
Five (5) Average Questions 5 points each
Four (4) Difficult Questions 8 points each

C. Structural Engineering (SE)


Ten (10) Easy Questions 3 points each
Six (6) Average Questions 5 points each
Five (5) Difficult Questions 8 points each

A total of 51 Questions will be answered in Two (2) Hours.

A perfect score in MSTE and HGE will be 75 POINTS, while in SE is 100 POINTS for an
OVERALL PERFECT SCORE of 250 POINTS.

7. The TOP 5 SCORERS for each group will automatically qualify for the Grand Finals.

8. Should there be a TIE in the finalist spot for a certain group, winners shall be decided based on
the total number of difficult questions he/she answered correctly. Further, ties shall be
broken based on the total number of average questions answered correctly.

9. In the case that a Finalist cannot compete in the Grand Finals, an alternate shall be taken from
the same group. The alternate shall be next in rank based on the official results of the
Elimination Round. Should there be a TIE, same rule in SECTION III.8 will apply.

10. Megareview and Tutorial Center will have its own Panel of Examiners, Proctors, Hosts, and
Staff.

11. Should issues arise, concerns by the participant must be raised by sending a private message to
their Proctors.

IV. GRAND FINALS

Date: October 30, 9:00 AM


Venue: Online

1. The GRAND FINALS of MCONQ 2021 is a PM-Type Question & Answer Quiz and will be
streamed live in our public Facebook page.

2. The event will be conducted via two (2) platforms: ZOOM and FACEBOOK. Participants will be
invited into a private Facebook group dedicated only for the grand finalists and coaches. A
zoom link will be sent days before the day of the event.

3. DEVICES. The school/coach shall provide each participant with the following device/s:

A. At Least One (1) Laptop AND


B. At Least One (1) Mobile Phone OR One (1) Tablet WITH WORKING CAMERA
C. Only calculators allowed by PRC

4. The Grand Finals will be divided into two (2) parts each consisting of Ten (10) Questions:
Three (3) from MSTE, Three (3) from HGE, and Four (4) from SE.

5. Questions will be flashed in their screens simultaneously. The host will read the question twice
and participants will be given a maximum of 3 minutes (180 seconds) to solve the problem.
The participants are free to solve the question while the host is reading it.

6. The final answer of each participant shall be PMed (messaged privately) to our dedicated
SCORER. Our scorer will note their answers including the exact time (HH:MM:SS) the
answer was sent.

7. POINT-SYSTEM. The following point-system shall be used:

Each part will have a total of Ten (10) Questions and the entire Grand Finals will have a total
of Twenty (20) Questions.

Assuming that a participant was able to answer ALL questions in less than 30 seconds, and
consequently the only participant to answer each question correctly (assuming all other
participants didn’t score a single point), the maximum attainable score for the entire grand finals
is Two-Hundred (200) Points.

8. The TOP 3 SCORERS will be ranked based on their total scores and will be declared winners.

9. Should there be a TIE, tie-breaker questions will be given. All tie-breaker questions are
answerable in one (1) minute and will be given continuously until the tie is finally broken.

10. Megareview and Tutorial Center will have its own Panel of Examiners, Scorers, Hosts, and
Staff.

11. Should protest arise, complaint by the participants must be raised before the next problem is
flashed on the screen. Only the Panel of Examiners shall review the complaint and come up to
a decision. The decision of the Panel of Examiners is Final.

V. DISQUALIFICATION

1. PRE-EVENT. A series of confirmation emails will be sent and participants are obliged to
respond.

ELIMINATION ROUND
A. The first confirmation email will be sent a maximum of seven (7) days after filling up
the registration form.
B. The second confirmation email will be sent one (1) week prior to the event.

If a participant fails to respond to any of the email, a warning will be sent.

Failure to respond further will result to disqualification.

GRAND FINALS
A. The first confirmation email will be sent a maximum of two (2) days after the
elimination round.
B. The second confirmation email will be sent three (3) days prior to the event.

If a finalist fails to respond to any of the email, a warning will be sent.


Failure to respond further will result to disqualification.
In this case, an alternate shall be chosen based on the criteria stated in III.9.

2. DAY-OF-EVENT. During the event, a series of attendance checks will be performed.

ELIMINATION ROUND
A. The first attendance check will be performed one (1) hour prior to the start of the
event.
B. A quick second attendance check will be performed few minutes before the start of
the event.

If a participant fails to respond to the second attendance check, the participant will automatically
be declared absent.

GRAND FINALS
A. The first attendance check will be performed one (1) hour prior to the start of the
event.
B. A quick second attendance check will be performed minutes before the start of the
event.

If a finalist fails to respond to the second attendance check, the participant will automatically be
declared absent.

VI. PRIZES

Winners in the GRAND FINALS will receive the following:

FIRST PLACE - Php 30,000 + Full scholarship + 1 set of books (7 books)

ALL GRADUATES OF THE FIRST PLACER’S SCHOOL will be


entitled to a 30% discount for the whole review program fee
with free 1 set of books (7 books) when enrolled in Megareview for
May 2022 and Nov 2022 Review

SECOND PLACE - Php 25,000 + Full scholarship + 1 set of books (7 books)


+ 20% discount for the whole review program fee with free 1 set
of books (7 books) of all enrollees of the winning school for May
2022 and Nov 2022 Review

ALL GRADUATES OF THE SECOND PLACER’S SCHOOL will be


entitled to a 20% discount for the whole review program fee
with free 1 set of books (7 books) when enrolled in Megareview for
May 2022 and Nov 2022 Review

THIRD PLACE - Php 20,000 + Full scholarship + 1 set of books (7 books)

ALL GRADUATES OF THE THIRD PLACER’S SCHOOL will be


entitled to a 10% discount for the whole review program fee
with free 1 set of books (7 books) when enrolled in Megareview for
May 2022 and Nov 2022 Review

Non-winning participants will receive 50% discount for the whole review program fee.

Finalists will receive full scholarship for the whole review program fee plus one set of
books.
